You could always just buy the black covers. Easy to snap on the fog kit. The s8 bar, not as easy since you need to get to it. You could always just put something in front of it and tape it on (maybe a piece of cardboard that blocks the light, slide it in).

@smurfslayer would you mind sending along a photo of the covers you built? That might be what I have to do. Also, yeah, more research is required on my part and I may have to have a bit of wiring done to make sure I can't have my SAE fogs+highs, etc...

Obviously, I'll try another inspection station, like I said, I've used a couple of independent guys in the past and they were great, but I appreciate a backup plan.

You need to know your vehicle inspection code (better than the inspector) and keep copies with you.

Virginia had similar requirements.
you can only have 4 forward facing lights on at any one time - in other words either low beams and fogs OR low + high beams. Fogs have to be SAE or DOT approved and labeled, and have to deactivate with high beams, UNLESS the fogs or any other forward facing are covered completely.

For the S8, I made 2 leather covers that attached to the grille and for the other lights I got light covers. Mounted the light covers before inspection, took them off after while I was filling up with fuel.

That's pretty much what the PA laws are. Technically any off road (non-SAE) should be covered at all times when on the roads.

I used to have to slip so cash to the inspectors in Hawaii because my lights had clear diffusers and amber bulbs. I always made sure my windows were rolled down too, because the tint wouldn't pass either.

Some state sure have silly rules.

I don’t. If you look at each scrap of leather, they’re cut with tabs on the ends and those tabs fit into the grille slots above / below the light. the bottom ones literally sit right on top of the Ford logo, and the sides just need to fit in any slot. You can fire up the light bar and nothing gets through that wouldn’t get through one of the factory B/D light covers.

I thought about trying to use the factory covers, there’s no way to make them work.
1) the S8 sits right up against the outer grille. you would need to completely disassemble everything, block off the light, reassemble and inspect. It would be easier to remove the light, get inspected and reinstall.
2) I thought about kydex. Don’t. S8 puts out enough heat to deform kydex.
3) factory covers over the grille - I could not envision a way to make this work. There were 2 problems - affixing them and because of the gap left, some light would escape “around” the covers. I knew my local guy would flunk that, because I asked.

Those leather scraps are just regular 8-10m thickness cow leather, dyed with leather dye and water proofed ( such as it is ). same thickness you might opt for with a handgun holster or a belt.

In PA I believe if they are on the vehicle they have to work. That said, if they are on the vehicle and work it doesn’t mean they are legal.
