Take it in and get the "new" transmission flash from Ford. Mine was not terrible, but had a REALLY hard shift between 4-5 in Sport mode. I had mentioned it several times in service visits, but the techs said there was nothing wrong/they could do. I kept mentioning it just in case something really bad happened.

Anyway, I took the truck in for my 15k service yesterday, and mentioned the "new" transmission flash I had heard/read about on here for 2018s. My advisor and tech looked into it, said, yes, there is a new flash for your truck, and we will do it.

Well, it worked...the hard 4-5 shift in Sport is gone, and the shifts seem much smoother overall. So, if you're having any issues, take it in.

Lucille was born 11/16/16 but was held for QA driving. There was at least 1 PCM update as a result. Even so, I pushed my dealer.
1st time, they just said “your PCM/tcm is up to date”. That’s a far cry from most current. next service visit I forced the issue and said ‘connect it, download the most current pcm/tcm tune’ They balked, saying they need a warranty reason. I gave them periodic harsh shifts, and whatever. they bought it

It’s nowhere near as lazy on the downshifts now. I never really had harsh shifts, more so I was just wanting the downshifts to come a little more eagerly. it’s definitely and improvement.

I had a similar experience to Smurfslayer. Dealer, while usually good with me, never wants to update anything. So for my 2017 I had to give them the same rough shift reason and after I pushed they applied TSB 18-2079 a few months ago. It helped a lot with shifting, IMO. Then when I recently saw TSB 18-2274 for another PCM flash for trucks built before 15 May 2018 I asked to have them put that on. I'm sure Ford is continually refining the PCM logic for the new 10-speed trans, so why shouldn't I benefit from the latest version? It only takes a few minutes and I even offered to cover labor if that's the big hang up. But on TSB 18-2274 the dealer claimed that after hooking it up to the IDS they didn't see any codes to allow them to install a PCM update. So apparently no update for me, although I've seen other people with 2017 trucks say they've gotten it.

Just irritates the shit of me that we have to push to get updates on a Ford Performance vehicle when it's in for service, and we're denied the potential improvement offered. I'm a Ford truck guy, always have been, but seems like such a simple thing to offer your customers updates when they're in for service AND they ask for it.

And even if there is some reason like liability or future claims, I don't give a crap- I wanted the latest version, damnit. Lol

I dropped mine at the dealer this morning along with a printout of the TSB. I haven't heard anything, fingers crossed. If they don't do the update, I will escalate it up the chain before I take the truck back.

I think that we as owners should be able to get a update if we are having shifting issues period. Should not depend on when it was built. Im glad that ford is continuing to make this transmission work better. I had mine flashed and it did help. Still has good be better though, but very livable .

Any chance someone could post a picture or link of the update so I can take it to my dealer?

Had my first oil change done and got the run around about the harsh shifts in sport mode. I think they’d be willing to do the update if they knew more about it but not willing to do the homework to look into it.

If I could offer them some more info i think it would help my cause.

That thing says on or before may 2018... Some of these are built after that and still have that jerky 3 to 4 and 4 to 5 shifts. I don't know if the dealer would use that against doing it.
