I don't think there is ANY real variation in crankcase volume.  That kind of gross configuration control idiocy is essentially impossible now.  You know what I think it is?  Variations in dipstick length or variations in the length of the dipstick tube.


I would be really reluctant to put more than the specified 7 quarts into the crankcase.  Overfilling the crankcase is BAD.
