Wondering if the folks who ran hard in 4 wheel high at Havoc Hills finished without issues related to the IWE. Headed out to Borrego next weekend and there are sections of very soft sand. Thought i would engage 4 wheel drive while stopped to break it in.

I ran her for a weekend in Glamis last March with 4x4 engaged full time and off road mode. I was running at 25 psi stock with no issues. Smiling the whole damn time!

For those guys, who did not make it to Havoc, the conditions didn't warrant 4h. With that said, I did run in 2wd, 4h and even 4l. I really tried to push it in 2wd without the rear locked but most of the time I had the rear locked when in the dirt.
I had hoped for more sand which would require 4wd. As it was, most areas were hard packed. I don't think anyone got stuck. There were some very steep spots, off camber, technical stuff which is why I had to go to low. On day 2, some of us took a wrong turn which lead us to tight, rocky, "jeep trail". This section was high up on a peak with trees, rocks, it was very tight.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, there was a varity of terrain, it was a good mix. I don't think you can say: when off-road you should always be in 4h", or "2wd with the lockers on". With experience, you will get a feel for what combination works best in what conditions. I know this was a big topic with all who attended.

I ran in two with the rear locked (after being reminded that I could lock the rear, lol)
You didn't "need" 4 wheel to run the track, but I'm sure it helped in some locations. Yes my rear tires took a beating because of it. They were new stock tires and are all chucked to hell.

One thing to remember, it's the Torsen on the 12's and newer that have IWE issues. 10 and 11 typically fair really well.

There are times when 2wd is more fun because you can toss the truck around while you can't as easily in 4wd. I like Huck used 4wd partly to save tires at Havoc. Less tire spin with tons of rocks around helped a lot to save my tires.
I will tell you that some people stay in 2wd at times no matter what. There are different reasons they do that. Sometimes the only reason is to prove something. I say run your truck however you want. Just be mindful of what Huck said about the transition to 4wd. That is where a lot of bad things happen if you do it at the wrong time.
