Having trouble with Baja Designs wiring plugs.

Baja Designs lights have a bunch of these two wire weather-seal plugs. The male and female ends are very loose inside them and I can't see how to connect these together without bending the #!@# out of the pins:

Is there any trick to these?

The pins aren't straight even *before*I tried to connect them. I've tried to very gently line them up with needlenose pliers...but the moment I try to fit the female connector over them they go sideways.

Those are 2-Pin WeatherPack Connectors. What you are experiencing is normal with all connectors.

One trick is pull back a little bit on the wires at the end of the plug as you insert it (both sides). What this does is it helps straighten the pins since they wiggle around a bit.

If your pins are still crooked, you can just re-align then with a small screw driver till they are in the center.

Quite normal what you are experiencing. Once in a while you get one that just wants to be an SOB too. But just be patient, pull back on the wires as I said to give it tension and you should be good (the pins will be centered then)

4x4TruckLEDs.com gave you great advice. I would also mention that putting some di-electric grease in those weatherpak connectors is also a good idea. I have had half a dozen or so be corroded quite badly after 2 years of use in my northern climate. Or you could switch them out to Deutsch dt04-2P plugs for a better connection and a bit more weather proof. Deutsch is very specific about not using di-electric grease.

See I wondered why Baja used WeatherPack when I first got into Baja. They told me they were a better connection over the DT. I make my own harnesses for my trucks and found the WeatherPack were a LOT easier to install then the DT.

I can't say which one is better but i've never had issues with WeatherPack or DT to be quite honest. I've never had any corrosion issues myself.

I can say that the DT connectors (Deutsch) do seem to make more of a solid connection when you insert them. They really keep a nice seal. Compared to the weatherpack anyway. WP still make a good seal from my experience.

Not a bad idea though on the dielectric (belt + suspenders)

I had the same problem there is no way they are designed to fit this tight. I contacted Baja Designs and they are sending new plugs. Pretty disappointed with their wiring harness. The harness that comes with Rigid lights is nicer and has a relay as well. Can’t complain about the light output though.

What wiring harness are you using btw??? Rigid's harness is a generic harness, which is why they need relays.

If you are still having issues it sounds like you MAY have bent the pin and crushed it a bit, so it won't fit in now.

2 pin HENG CHANG YONG harness? That was in the box. Looks pretty generic to me as well.

I should have been more clear. Meaning, which product/harness? Is this 1 set of Squadrons for example and you are using the harness that came with the Baja lights? Or is this a fog light kit? Are you installing on A-Pillars (in which case the harness they give you in a pair of squadrons is not long enough to reach even).

Can you send me a photo of the connector itself? What I mean is... take a photo looking straight down the opening at the plugs for me. See if you can light it up also. I'm trying to see if you bent the pins which would explain why you can't get it to seat.

Thanks, greatly appreciate the info. Have managed to get it all connected (except side-to-side, which I don't want to do until wires are routed through truck).

Still need to remove the interior switch that's included...assume that can only cause problems.
