Do you think raptors will ever have serious competition? I think GM and Dodge certainly control a large enough portion of the truck market to consider it. Toyota doesn't sell as many trucks, but they do have a pretty strong following in the off-road scene, especially with the revival of the FJ. Has anyone heard anything?

I heard that for Dodge was offering a similar package to the Raptor but thru after market channels. And not too long ago I read that Chevy was going to offer something similar in diesel version. but nothing as of yet.

Dodge does offer the aftermarket kit.

Chevy showed off a concept to compete with the Raptor.

Toyota showed something off as well, don't remember when, that was suppose to be a competitor but is still a concept now.

I haven't seen/read anything that indicates any manufacturer producing a vehicle to compete with the Raptor aside from Dodge's kit but that is an add-on not a production vehicle.

The current issue of Automobile magazine has a brief write-up and pictures of the GM concept truck. It's got Fox Shox and disconnectable sway bars and some other stuff. They're showing it with the very heavy Allison diesel which I wouldn't expect they would offer if it ever makes it to production.

Looks good except for the massive grille up front. If you laid it down you could barbecue a whole cow on it.

Found online:

"This massive GM, set for the stage at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, features a 6.6-liter 397 horsepower Duramax turbo-diesel V8 with 765 pound-feet of torque. The transmission is a six-speed Allison 1000 unit.
The Sierra All Terrain concept is shorter than a traditional HD Sierra, but features upgraded suspension with three-inches more clearance, a wider -- 73 inch -- track, front and rear jounce shocks, electronic disconnect stabilizer bars, composite underbody protection, 35" BF Goodrich tires on 20" rims and Fox shocks with remote reservoirs in the wheel liner."

Ugh. While it may sound good on paper, the body doesn't look very attractive IMO.

not sure IF the market makes sense to the others? Raptor is a "niche" truck, how many do they have to sell to make it worth while?

Making it diesel will kill it, along with chrome rims, along with that grill and side view mirrors. Besides all that, sounds pretty damn nice. At least it has sway bar disconnects which ford fails to add every year since it was produced.

I'm not trying to start no ****, but please tell me how making it a diesel will kill it, besides the higher cost of the fuel. Just curious. It seems everyone wants a diesel in things like cars and Jeeps but when it goes into an offroad truck it will kill. I don't understand.

A diesel is heavy, which increases the load on the suspension & axles.
