Get a used GEN1 with a good old V8, mod the shit out of it to your liking. This way you are not stuck in the middle of nowhere with your brand new GEN2 V6 egoboost trying to figure out where to drill a weephole or wondering why do you have wrench signs all over the dash and the truck is overheating and not moving. lol

Get a '17 Platinum F250 for the same price as a loaded SCREW. Awesome truck.

Either Raptor will be fine for carrying some weight around.
However, if you plan on the camper thing, the longer bed of the F-250 makes more sense.

All- be honest... the Gen I isn't any better suited to his described use case than is the Gen II. It really sounds to me like the F250 would be the better fit.

Hi all. Current 2016 4runner owner here. My needs have changed and its falling short of expectations so I'm a long time Ford lover and previous F150 owner. I'm looking at buying either a Gen 2 Raptor or a 2016/15 F250 Diesel King Ranch. For the next couple of years it would be a daily driver and when I retire a full time travel machine to go photograph landscapes and surf. Right now it would be a combination of both.

My concern is the Raptor carrying weight. I won't be doing Baja or Hells revenge. I will be carrying RTT (on a low bed rack), surfboards, fridge, bed rack and roof rack, camera equipment, etc. I don't want to modify the Raptor suspension. The F250 could get adjustable suspension, lift and tires and still be less money.

There may be a time when I want a slide in camper and I would think the F250 option would be the way to go with that, but thats a long ways away and not certain.

So how does the Raptor handle weight? Will the F250 be more versatile?

Any comments about weight, size, usage, mods, links to other discussions etc would be greatly appreciated thanks!
The only deal breaker is the camper , otherwise the G2 Raptor is better in every way than a 15/16 Superduty, or 17 Superduty.

Having owned multiple Superduty's and Rams , I love them for their purposes as a work truck but there is a huge difference if your are daily driving.

If you can settle on not getting a camper, hands down the G2 Raptor is the best bet as you said daily driver. Comfort is like a Range Rover on the highway, fantastic mileage (about 17 mpg) and power, luxury amenities. Up to about 500 lbs in the bed it does fine.

Next the 16 Superduty , it'll ride much rougher in comparison even with aftermarket suspension, interior is no where near the 17 Superduty and Raptor, and then you also have a diesel. Mileage is worse than the G2 stock to stock, average about 15 mpg. With a tune/delete it'd be close, but throw a lift and wheels and tires on and it drops back to where you were. I'm a big diesel guy but you have to know what you're getting into as far as emmision complexity and maintenance.

G1, well it'd do fine if you can live with much older interior and luxury items, much less power, terrible mileage. But it does have a V8, much better ride and handling than a Superduty, and more aftermarket available.

Thank you thats a big help. No decision yet, lots of research to do. One thing is for sure, its hard to find used SDs! People just don't part with them.

Agreed. Gen 1 vs Gen 2 isn't really the issue for me. Realistically that'll come down to how much I want to pay.

If you're secure in your manhood and don't need to compensate with engine sound, a Gen II would be best. However if you suffer from inadequacies in the nether region, perhaps an old Raptor may make you feel better about yourself.
