Are people making their own full skids or buying a kit? It seems from a quick Google search that .250 thickness of T6 aluminum under the engine, transmission and transfer case is the standard. With .125 thickness under the rest of the truck.

KHC has a rear differential skid that I will probably use, but looking at options for other areas.

I am currently running a stock bumper with the factory skids, but will be going to a SVC set of bumpers. So just looking at options for covering the entire underside of the truck. If someone makes a kit great, or it I need to fab up my own.

That's what I was looking at as well. Just wanted to hear what people are doing or have done first.

I have SVT bumper and skid on Gen 1 and loved it since new. On a side note, I am not a fan of the silver for the Gen2 and 3 front skid plate. Anyone LineX that?? Would look much better in black I think. Thoughts?

When I get my SVC bumpers, the skid will be black.

We sell the KHC and Foutz skids to FRF members (ask about FRF discounts). I have the full set KHC ones on mine. They are very similar in design, the KHC has the mounting brace to the frame in the middle. I did have to cut a square where the oil drips from the oil filter, I just used the factory skid that has it as a template where to cut it. I recommend getting a Fumoto oil valve when you do this.
Definitely need better protection than stock hence is why I upgraded. For some reason Ford decided to keep the exhaust across the crossmember exposed. I completely smashed that exhaust!

I have the RCI Off Road transmission and transfer case skid plates on my Gen1 and they are great. Highly recommend.

I do find the hardware a little challenging to get threaded correctly after a few removals. I just bought a couple extra hardware kits and replace them more frequently than I would have thought necessary just to avoid the frustration of threading by hand 10 times to avoid cross threading. New hardware threads easily the first time. I'm guessing this is operator error.

Anyone run anything other than Foutz/RCI (not that there is ANYTHING wrong with those)? Also, for those who have gone on Baja runs, was aluminum skids enough? I've seen some really beat up examples of the aluminum from slow crawl shenanigans but have not heard desert bombers complain much.

<EDIT>

Well, found a post where @zombiekiller answered my question.
