and your point being? Doesn’t change the fact that you can order a TRX for 90-100k and you’re not getting into a raptor r for less than 130k.

Wouldn't that indicate that one is more desirable than the other? One being marked up and one being marked down is a pretty good measure.

Man, if you think an 88k pickup truck is a great move to save some bucks, you need to rethink things. There is a reason why you can order a TRX for 11 under sticker, but you can't sniff an R under whatever the number is today. Lightweight, 2wd option, factory 37's and front limited slip. Everyone knows it's better, otherwise they're being dishonest.

It's like comparing Garrison Bros to Old #7, they will both get the job done, but which one do you really want?

Old #7, all day, every day over GB, possibly the most overrated, and definitely overpriced spirit on the market.

Yeah except you can get that for msrp without an additional 20-50k in dealer markup

And this is the tip of the iceberg that is the problem for the Raptor R. Stealership non criminal profiteering. The R cost at MSRP is -- a lot -- for what you get. The TRX is a lot as well, but you get basically similar mall crawl performance from both and let’s be honest, except for YouTubers, you aren’t seeing many of these off of pavement.

Ford could have taken a harder line, like with the Lightning but didn’t and I think that says a lot about where their priorities lie. I don’t think Ford wants to produce the truck at all. They’re severely limiting production and not even really competing with the TRX. Instead, they’re trying to have a different market place altogether for what is a TRX competitor. We’ll see how the two stack up later, I’m sure but there are 2 issues here.

1) you can have a TRX
2) you can have a TRX with a reasonable expectation of delivery AND 90% less stealership games.

My point is that the two models should be viewed at MSRP and not what a dealer will try to gouge you for. Ford priced the Raptor R where they thought was at a level that would be an acceptable price level compared to what the competition offers. They cannot control what the dealers price their units at. There are people that are getting their Raptor R's for sticker. I'm one of them.

Hah, I’m sure you are.

Also all of the oems can take steps to stop price gauging. Ford doesn’t care, which imo even if it doesn’t make the vehicle more valuable, means it definitely should be factored into the purchase price suckers are paying on average

Is the raptor R worth 10k more than a TRX. Maybe. I’d probably pay that. But for what the average attainability will be - at 130k+? Absolutely not.

When the time comes to take delivery I'll post the sales contract.

All of the OEM's can, but none of them do. For those of us who can get the model for msrp, others paying well above sticker will ensure that resale value stays higher than many run of the mill cars. If I weren't getting mine for sticker I'd be looking at a TRX Sandblast edition.

This whole Raptor R thing has me totally perplexed… other then the motor, which is arguably not very impressive, and the “exclusivity” which just simply means the whole buying experience is annoying for most folks, what exactly are you paying for? Who wants to pay fully loaded GWagon pricing for a set of 37’s you could get on your own?

I’m not trying to be a d***, I am poking around to see if I’m better off letting my TRX order fall through… but nothing I see makes me feel like a loaded TRX for $88k is the wrong move…

Can someone educate me?

The Raptor is exclusive to start, so isn’t the TRX. Aside from dealer markups- which are not always the case but did effect not only “base” raptors but also used ones Gen2 & Gen1 - and shouldn’t be used for a fair “comparison”, A base G550 is like $140k, so $30k more than a Raptor-R, & while I don’t know firsthand specific for the G-wagon, plenty to desirable luxury vehicles are also going for markups similar to Raptor-R (all Porsches I know for a fact are in my area)

A base G-wagon is down 280+hp & 190tq compared to a Raptor R lol

I’m not even a big fan of Fords V8s….but how can you call 700hp/640tq (& I believe it’s underrated tbh) out of 5.2 liters not impressive when Ram is adding another 1 liter of displacement to the block? The Ford blower is 2.65L & the Ram’s is 2.4L….the TRX is a good bit heavier anywhere from 250-750 lbs depending who you ask. The TRX has an FE block right over the nose while the Raptor-R increases total weight vs base model by only 100 lbs

The Raptor is a much more complete design & much more purpose built & that will show off-road & over repeated use in general I’d expect the Raptor-R would age more gracefully than a TRX given similar use.

There’s a reason you can run the Raptor (base or R) in 2wd & you can’t w/ a TRX- it’s simply b/c the Ford engineers are more confident in the platform overall & that the rest of the driveline components are all more robust/sturdy enough to handle all that twist in just 2wd. There’s no getting around this fact & it’s the only reason Ram went this route. And if you wanna run in AWD The Raptor is the only truck on the road w/ a bespoke T-case that truly allows for the closest thing you can get to true “AWD w/ a button” w/ no binding in dry conditions vs the 4 auto function in regular F150s & other 1/2 tons

Not sure what something is “worth” - only worth what the market will bear. But if you’re asking whether a Raptor-R (or TRX for that matter) is “worth” $100-$110k when you can get a G550 for $140k….I’ll leave you w/ this

Raptor R (& the base) has way more HP & TQ than a G550

It can tow 1k lbs more

It has a bed

It has a 36 gal vs 26 gal fuel tank

It has more interior room

The entire body of the Raptor is aluminum alloy, only portions of the G550 are….

Has a superior suspension & VASTLY superior wheels/tires for off-road use- the only advantage the G550 may have here is a front locker?

I get it- Mercedes interior/fit & finish, the badge & design- all that is worth something for sure, but objectively….there’s quite a lot that the Raptor R has over a G550 when trying to make an apples to apples comparison
