You need a 15mm socket to remove the old skid and a T40 bit to put the new oil filter door on your new skid (it does not come pre-assembled).

Removal of old skid - undo 6 15mm bolts, remove (catch) skid.

Install of new skid - clip on 4 new fastners for oil filter door and attach new door to skid with four T40 screws. Attach new skid with 6 new 15mm bolts (that have blue threadlocker already applied to them from FRP)

Differences between stock & FRP skid - just the 3 braces (and FRP engraved text). The FRP skid base is the exact same as the stock part (same part numbers stamped into the sheet metal).

Stock skid on top, FRP on bottom:

The skid comes well packed:

FRP text on outboard braces:

Wow the exact same with a few brakets?? Not even a thicker material?

I'm surprised. But what about you Andy. Are you happy with the "upgrade"?

Correct, its the stock skid with 3 braces welded for stiffening. I'm happy with it, for esthetics but.........

It's not really a skid, nor are any other of the Raptors 'skids', they're more like brush and stone deflectors.
My idea of a skid is that you can put the entire weight of the vehicle on it (3/16 steel min). I'm definately going to be more careful of what I run over next time I'm out in the desert.

Thanks Andy!

I'm like the extended side protection...not sure if it really adds much but it looks cool.

One item to note. When you get the stock skid off you'll see two lines leading to one of the coolers (probably the tranny cooler). On my Raptor they were touching. I sleeved one in about 4" of split wire loom to stop them rubbing.

I'm not surprised. I never expected the FRP unit to be anything more than a replacement for the stock item (and a way for Ford to make some money).

Someone could make a heavier (steel) version with corrugations/ribs that would offer more durability and some additional protection but the weight wouldn't do anyone any favors.

Thanks for the great pics and write up . It saved me some money . It would be a heck of alot cheaper to just weld some bracing on your stock skid .
