What does Ford do with these gen 2 raptors that they continue to buy back? Not sure I have ever seen a vehicle history report detailing anything like that.

I have no idea how many Gen II Raptors have been bought back by Ford, but my guess is that it is no more than a handful and a minuscule number in comparison to the total number of Gen II trucks produced.

My previous experience from when I worked in the powersports industry is that on the rare occasion a vehicle is repurchased by the manufacturer, the manufacturer would either pay the dealer to repair and give the dealer an allowance to resell the vehicle or recall the vehicle back for testing and experimentation.

That's a good guess considering this applies to roughly 100% of all vehicles.

Ford dealers can look up a vehicle's repair history for warranty work. That would reveal a lengthy and troublesome repair history. A dealer selling the vehicle might try to hide this, but call another dealer's service dept with the vin and their service department will give you the low down. I did this when buying a used vehicle from a private party and the local dealership was very helpful and open about the vehicle's repair history.

It depends on how it was bought back.

If it is bought back as a result of a lemon lawsuit settlement, the title is branded and the selling dealer is legally obligated to disclose the truck was bought back as the result of a lawsuit.

if it’s bought back but a customer goodwill effort, that is, you jump up and down, stamp your feet and the Dealer gets together for corp and agrees - yeah, we screwed this up, let’s get this person happy; they replace the vehicle outright. Here it is not as clear what’s required. In any case, there will be some variance by state.

Lemon buy backs that are title branded can have some poor sale value, and could end up as demos, test mules or may well be sold.

When my lemon was replaced I signed a ton of paperwork, one of them was the agreement by the mfgr that the vehicle was bought back as a result of a lawsuit and they would have to disclose such to any future buyer.

It wouldn’t be in anyone’s best interest to let a true lemon back out into the wild.

Only true in some states, unfortunately.
