Cant they just replace the tailgate instead of trying to screw with it? Id make sure they fixed it one way or the other.

Had them on my 13 (black) and on my 17 (silver). They do look like dents, I decided to live with it on both rather than have them make it worse or create more problems.

I found 3 places where the paint has a defect, one in the tailgate, looks like a ding but it's not, then 2 small places on the side front passenger door (not very noticeable at all).

THe dealer said they can fix it but it will take repainting those areas. I'm very hesitant to letting them do that.

This wasn't caught by me or anyone cause I literally bought it off the Shipping Truck dirty with stickers on it and all, and drove off.

I'm not really concerned except the rear tailgate cause it's the most noticeable, but what would you guys do? Let it go or repaint?

I have the same on mine--2 fisheyes, one of which is quite noticeable on the driver's side front fender. Ford has documented it, and authorized repairs. Scheduled May 22 for repainting and re-clearing that whole fender, which they will have to remove. I plan on cancelling appointment, after I had a long talk with a gentleman I have known for many years that runs a bodyshop for a very large new car dealer (not Ford). Based on what he told me, and based on the repainting I had done to lot damage on my new 2016 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon last summer, I have overwhelmingly determined the cost-benefit analysis is not in favor of having the Raptor repainted. The paint will be softer, less durable. There is zero guarantee it will match, as parameters are different when the vehicle is painted at different times, by different people (robots), and in different environmental conditions. My vote is a resounding NO on repainting.

Also, as you mentioned not noticing it, I am basically OCD, and did not notice the paint errors on mine during delivery. In fact, I recently showed a fellow FRF member my concerns recently at the local car wash, and even he thought it wasn't necessarily a huge detractor from the appeal of the vehicle. I agree--not happy about it, but I have since taken account of various variables, and have more or less made peace with the fact Ford did not do a perfect job on this long awaited truck.

Send a picture. Some fish eyes can be sanded out. I wouldn't let the dealer fix it.

No sanding out the fisheyes I have on mine; determined by 2 bodyshops. I wonder if the OP's truck is as bad?

Yep, definitely not slick like wifes Black Jag SUV

I'm disappointed in the black paint job on my truck... it's not bad and is defect free but the orange peel is bad for this high of a truck... seems to be normal for US built cars.

Not sure I want to risk having a shop sand it and buff it however...

Not sure its worth cutting through the clear coat to the base coat, that would suck. Whats the word on your bumper?

A competent detailer should be able to remove most and if not all of the orange peel. Wet sanding isn't even always needed. A denim pad and a paint thickness gauge are really all that you need.

If you are planning to try it yourself, be careful and take your time. If you aren't comfortable with your skills using a polisher, then by all means have a pro do it. It doesn't take much to cut all the way through the clear coat and then you're stuck doing a repaint.
