I dropped my first oil after a few thousand, waste of money. With an aviation background I cut open the oil filter and there wasn't a single metal shaving anywhere in the entire element. This was a first for me. I recently ran my oil 10,000 miles and sent a sample to Blackstone, oil was still good to go and had enough additives to run past 15,000 miles. Unless you don't drive far enough to heat the oil up enough to boil off the humidity, according to Ford and Blackstone, a change short of 10,000 is a waste of money.

Good point about boiling water out of the oil! The white cheese-like sludge than can build up after many short drives is astonishing.

In a prior oil change thread, people said their oil analysis report told them the oil from the factory was different from the recommended oil, suggesting that Ford does, in fact, use a break-in oil. Also, the initial oil filter is larger than the one listed for replacement.

BTW, it seems some people in this thread don't understand what an oil filter does and how it works. Automotive engineers figured out a long, long time ago how to keep contamination from damaging an engine.

My tribologist said the two oils were close enough that it could be batch-to-batch differences, as well as contamination from all the fresh sealants, etc., making them look different.

Yes, the initial filter is larger.

anyone just go by the CPU for 1st oil change schedule. Mine says oil is at 82% life with only 1800 miles on the truck. Haven't touched it yet, but I was debating it, thinking if I did change it that is the old school way of thinking.

Been using mobil 1 for last 27 years. 10,000 mile oil changes. I take almost every car I own to 100,000 miles. 3,000 mile oil changes are just marketing for old oil. Totally not needed. follow the oil life meter in the car and change the oil when it gets to 5-10%

I tried Mobil1 in one of my Grand Nationals and it was using oil so I went back to conventional oil and 3k mile oci's.

With the extreme hot and cold here in Canada, I have found 5000mi OCI is ideal for turbo engines.

I run Shell Rotella T6 5w40 in my turbo car. I plan to run Rotella T6 5w30 in my Raptor.

I usually go 10k between changes with fully synth oil. My oil life meter is at 3% with only 5k miles...
