When’s the last time you replaced spark plugs and do you have a scan tool to monitor misfires per bank. Additionally the individual coil pack gets a little corroded after a couple 6-8 years and can raise some havoc. Probably not your shifting issue but certainly sounds like your stall issue.

Spark plugs have never been done. Worth doing given the circumstance. I will check on coil.

The downshifting gears unexpectedly symptom points to the lead frame in the trans.

Take the pedal commander out to eliminate that first.

Update-
I removed the pedal commander and re hooked the oem clip.
Also cleaned my K&N air filter- it was dirty.
Drove around all morning with no issues, so far so good. The sad part is I forgot what the truck was like to drive with the factory lag when hitting the gas.
Time for a quality tune- 5 star?
What will work best and not cause these issues again?
Thanks
PS. Sounds like I have a pedal commander for sale...

Put the pedal commander back on. I've had mine one for 2 years and only once had a drive-ability issue. Unhook the battery to reset everything and put it back on. I bet you don't have that issue again

So the problem is back. I removed the pedal commander and cleaned out the dirty K&N air filter. Fixed the immediate stalling out and strange gear shifting. For the last month the truck now feels like it is almost stuttering between 3rd and 4th periodically. Then yesterday while accelerating from a light and truck moving up through the gears, the truck shifted from 4th to 2nd on its own, good thing my puppy had his harness clipped in.
What’s going on now?
Spark plugs?
Transmission?
Computer?
Air Intake?
Sensors?

Please Advise on your thoughts.
Thanks
