If you don't already have a $0 ded for comp, id consider chatting with your agent to do so. So many things over the years on there, including 4 windshields on my Gen1 rap from rocks during runs.

When you call your agent for the claim, you can request they use a ford windshield too. Its one extra step, but worth it to get the legit "SoundScreen" one or whatever is the latest n greatest, and i never got charged extra etc. You will still have a safelite type person come out to do it, but avoids getting a cheapo replacement glass

Bringing this thread back to life as I got a cracked windshield last week while camping and wheeling in CO. The Lane Assist system stopped working as soon as it happened which lead me to actually open the owners manual and find reference to the camera needing recalibrating after a windshield replacement. That sounds like a trip to the dealer for the whole thing rather than a Safelight OEM replacement and hope the camera works afterward.

Any other thoughts or experience with this?

Windshield cracks, if in a bad location or severe enough, can cause your LAS to malfunction. If it knocked out your LAS i'm assuming the crack must be pretty severe or in the perfect spot, warranting a windshield replacement. Some people get their windshields replaced without re-calibrating and everything seems to works and others have issues (might depend on how close the new mounting matches the original). But LAS should always be re-calibrated for optimal performance after any variables have changed. As far as taking it to the dealer goes that depends on how good your dealers is, some just make matters worse and take much longer doing it. LAS re-calibration can be done by the dealer or on your own with Forscan (only takes a few minutes) after the windshield is replaced by whoever you choose to do the work.

Do you know if the Adaptive Cruise Control calibration can be done with Forscan in a couple of minutes?

I bought a new bumper and had my ACC sensor moved up higher behind the honeycomb grille and the ACC feature has been complaining about the sensor being blocked, even though it is clear of any obstructions. It appears recalibration is one of the ways to address the issue.

Yes Forscan can also be used to recalibrate the ACC but I haven't done it personally so cant vouch for how easy it is. Based on some post I've seen from Livnitup (the Forscan master) on f150forum.com it seems like a similar procedure to the LAS calibration. Turn on calibration mode and drive for 10-15 min until message clears. Forscan will probably provide instructions when you initiate calibration (at least it did for LAS Calibration).

Hey everyone,

Didnt even make 6k miles on my 2018 before an idiot driving infront of me swirved onto the shoulder and kicked up some stones into my windshield. Got a nice bullseye with a crack now!

Didnt see any other threads, have you guys been using safelite?

Don't feel bad mine got cracked on my test drive ! Lol dealer had it changed out but the guys who changed it used that black primer to touch up scratches under window but some black shows above windshield so after thinking about it I just used a little ford touch up paint to fix it really aggravating but here in az you go thru a lot of windshields also making dealer put something in writing in case of issues down the road.

If you go through insurance for windshield replacement, they’ll also pay for the calibration. It would be 2 separate payments: one to the glass repair shop and one to the dealer.

Dealer and OEM glass!! Dealers usually call an outside company to do the work!! Safelite will push to use a substandard cheaper glass and the workmanship varies greatly!! Start with your insurance and request OEM glass! And if you have developed a good relationship with your dealer, the calibration will be free.. Calibration does not cost the dealer anything.. it only takes 2 minutes of a tech time..plug in ford ids laptop to OBDII port, launch software and calibration function, then you drive away for 10 minutes at 40 mph or more on a well delineated road with marked lanes! Calibration done!!
