Apple was in worse shape in the 90s than FCA is today.

Without the iPod, Apple would have died. I won't hold my breath that FCA comes out with something as disruptive as that anytime soon. (supercharging all the dated cars in their lineup most definitely doesn't count)

Other auto companies are investing heavily in autonomous vehicles and alternatives to internal combustion, but FCA cannot afford to do any of that. That means they are getting left further and further behind.

To avoid becoming irrelevant, Apple changed from a computer company to a personal device company. I don't see any hints of that kind of transition in FCA's future.

Side note: As a Raptor owner, Ford's focus on the future does make me a little nervous about the Raptor's future. It wouldn't surprise me if Ford reallocated all the engineering resources at the Performance division and put them on higher priority autonomous and green projects.

Just about all big fans of a particular brand have those same concerns. I know Porsche guys are scooping up NA GT cars at big mark-up like they're the last ones left on the planet. The companies that aren't focusing on those things are going to get left behind due to impending regulations and that has a lot of purists worried about what that means for the future of pure drivers vehicles.

It's not just the regulations killing enthusiast vehicles. While I love cars, most of my neighbors would be thrilled to have an electric car that did all the driving for them.

That could just mean we'll have an electric Raptor in the future ;)

I fear the electric power train is inevitable. Since most gen2 owners have accepted the ecoboost, something that was unheard of in trucks just a decade ago, FoMoCo will push us to accept electric as well.

Apple changed from a computer company to more than a personal device company. iPod and iTunes were huge. And then there was the killer "app" - the iPhone which made Apple HUGE.

Guys, the hybrid F-150 is due out next year. Big changes are coming to all vehicles and the electric pickup is likely inevitable.

The hybrid F-150 (and JEEP) will be awesome when "crawling" off road.
