I have been sitting in the bleachers weighing every possible factor on when to pull the trigger on a new Raptor. Two months ago, my thought was to wait until either the supercharged V8 or the Gen 3 came out. With this Covid economic crisis hitting, I started thinking about the possibility of saving money, since there are so many advertised deals on financing and below MSRP options out there.
I spent about a month and a half searching the internet for dealers with options and found out a few things. Early on, I realized that the financing deals did not apply to Ford Performance vehicles. So there went that benefit. Then I was in contact with a dealer and tried to play the "can I see the invoice, oh, I see that there is a holdback on it (money that the dealer didn't have to pay towards invoice)". This strategy did not work very well. I was finally told that since Ford would not be producing anymore 2020 Raptors, that they were not in a rush to get them off the lot. He did say that they also were not looking to store them on the lot, as well.
Up to that point I had been low-balling with a few bucks over MSRP and destination. I ended up resubmitting an offer to a different dealer that was $4000 under MSRP, but $2000 over invoice. I ended up getting it at that price. I live in California, where everything like this SUCKS, including the $6000 sales tax.
I have ZERO buyer's remorse. I LOVE this truck! I get compliments all the time from strangers. Also, a funny thing has happened twice now, today being the last. A new Chevy "Custom" Silverado was at a stop light with me. There was a second stop light only about 50 yards behind it. When the light turned green, he gunned it, but the light behind turned red so he had to stop. This time when the light turned green, I waited a fraction of a second to see if he did it again. He did, so I launched past him and made quick work of it. When we got to the next stop light, he had his window down, looked over with a big smile and gave me a thumbs-up. I returned the gesture. That is when I realized, all he wanted to do was see how his new truck measured up against the famed Raptor. I LOVE this truck! (but still kept my '07 Lariat 4X4)
