never said they would be the same time, just not much longer than if you were to buy a kit. regardless, you have to run wires, connect relays, and connect power. what im trying to get at, is do the things you can, save some money, and buy more mods (preferrably a stereo system....) gordon is well capable of welding and wiring and he isnt building his truck by himself. instead he decided to pay to have it done. but the difference is the amount of work involved for him. for larger projects definitely get the experts involved. thats why we the vendors are here, but for these smaller projects get the feeling of accomplishment knowing you did your project how YOU wanted it, and not settle for whats available. i get people in my shop almost on a daily basis asking us to fix a problem of some sort. a lot of times, i can tell the customer what to do because of how easy the fix is. most of the time they have been calling or stopping around for the cheapest price to fix it and everone quotes them a price on labor. we have decided to go the opposite route and help our customers as much as we can. if its an easy fix, they are happy and grateful for the free help. if the customer doesnt have the time, then of course we charge labor to look at it. i along with all the other vendors here are more than happy to help anyone out at any time. i go by a saying. "my advice is always free. if i offer it to you, i do not expect anything in return." so if you decide you want to take this project head on, you know where to find me. i dont wander far from the forum. if time is not an issue, definitely at least look into what it would take to do it yourself. you may find, its not as bad as it appears.
