Right now I have my exhaust exit the side before the rear tire with a flow master 40 series. The exhaust under hard acceleration sounds like a bunch of air whooshing and blowing out the end. Sounds bad to me. Would going to a bigger pipe diameter eliminate this?

Yup single exit. There is 1 stock tip is on there so whatever size that fits on.

2.79" diameter is the approximate "ideal" size for the 5.4. could just be the short tail pipe, the muffler its self or the fact that it's exiting at a point where you can hear it better than you would if it exited out the rear. i wouldn't go up in diameter unless you have some performance mods.

Ok. I will be probably doing long tubes and an off road y pipe soon. Should I go up in size with that?

i believe it's all relative to your rated horsepower. even if you go up to 360hp, it's still right around 3"
