Is it a functional or cosmetic reason that most people on this forum prefer their aftermarket exhaust on the Raptors to either come out on the side behind the tires or turned down or up through the bed?

I came here to try and decide what type of exhaust to get. Of course I still have no idea since I wouldn't call anything on this forum a consensus.

So I'm probably going to ask the shop what they think about Borla or Corsa, since those are the two brand names I see pop up often in here.

My original thought was two straight pipes out the back, but people here don't seem to like that look, so I'm wondering if it alters performance or function? Or if people here just want their pipes less visible?

Also, if anyone thinks that Borla and/or Corsa aren't the best but brand X is, feel free to let me know. I have no technical knowledge so I was hoping to rely on you guys to point me in the best direction.

First off, I've got nothing against borla or corsa, but on a cat-back your not going to get much performance if any. Mostly just sound change. Look on YouTube, there are several videos of different exhaust setups on our trucks. Find a sound you like and go with that.

As for exit location, most don't do out the back because is changes your departure angle. Basically when your offloading, they are easily smashed and banged up back there. Stock location isn't as bad, and dumped is the best (as far as offloading and making sure you don't smash the pipes goes). It's mainly personal preference on looks though. Another option is "lightning style," exiting in front of the rear tire. Basically like stock location, just moved forward.

Hope this helps

maybe aftermarket catbacks don't help performance, but catback delete does, I disconnected the muffler, still having it attached to the truck, and immediately shaved a little over a tenth off my best quarter mile time of the day, over 2 tenths off the run before

I smashed my exhaust tips the FIRST trip out after I got my truck with them in the stock location. So I dumped my exhaust over the rear axle. For off-roading, dumped under the truck is the best way to go for sure.

For street-queen duty, honestly, I'd go with wherever looks the best to you. I think lightning style looks good, straight out the back isn't too bad either.

Or you can do lightning style side exit. Don't have to worry about departure angle changes smashing the exhaust or stones being kicked up but the tires "sandblasting" the tips, only the sound of awesomeness.

Catback will make good sound and add throttle response. If you plan to really twist the suspension run the Lightning Style side exit for extra clearance.
