Having multiple things happening at same time, two service departments (one my local Ford dealer) can't diagnose. Frequent very long cranks on cold start (5 seconds for engine to fire up), erratic shifting that is getting progressively worse. Engine light comes on and off. Reduced fuel efficiency. I had the truck in for diagnosis at my local Ford dealer, gave them the previous description. They did an adaptive reset, which improved the shifting but didn't fix it, and the issue came back within the week. The service rep mentioned that it had a low fuel rail pressure code, but he didn't think it was important. Spark plugs were replaced about 25K ago & had fuel system clean performed at dealer.
Recently took it to a local, independent shop and gave them the same description, along with video of the long cranks. They did a full diagnostic and found a cracked thermostat housing which they fixed (the truck also had been giving me temperature warning similar to others who have posted, will wait to see if thermostat housing repair fixes that issue). They told me the truck was ready and when I went to pick it up, I asked them about the P0087 code, and they sheepishly told me they weren't able to replicate the issue and they didn't diagnose that part.
So, my frustration with service departments along with the issue getting worse has me in a difficult spot and I'm ready to try and figure it out myself. Twice on recent road trips, (4-5 hours), the maintenance warning light comes on and truck goes into reduced power mode. My FORD app registers a warning message that the truck is having a powertrain issue and take it in for service asap.
Does anyone have any experience with troubleshooting P0087/Low Fuel Rail Pressure.
Thanks.
