Emergency Beacon/Pager

So often I find myself way out of cellphone coverage on the trips that I take and was thinking about picking up an emergency pager/beacon that uses sat phone technology. Does anyone have any experiance with these and a recommendation?

This is the one that I'm leaning towards at the moment:

That's an idea, but personally I'm looking for a device that I can use to send check-in/ok messages to the mrs to stop her from worrying as well as use an emergency beacon.
