Ford has spent a lot of time, R&D and money designing these engines.
Doubtful they were going to say **** it and can em lol.
With certain standards to meet, they found a good way to still make an engine be efficient and not sacrifice power/delivery at the same time.

First glance I thought it said Mustang GT Ecoboost. Glad to see the 5.0 is still the GT power plant.

Aren't those number quicker than the last GT500?

Motortrend ran a 3.5 0-60 with the 13/14 GT500.
And then a 11.6 at 126 mph Q/M.

Having had a Shelby, the biggest obstacle was to hook on those ****** stock tires.

Misleading title...

GT will still be a 5.0:
The 2018 Mustang GT will make 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, right where most of us expected the power bump to land. That doesn’t tell the whole story however, as Ford reports the vehicle will be able to accelerate from 0-to-60 mph in under four seconds when equipped with the new 10-speed automatic transmission and using the new Drag Strip mode.

Ecoboost Mustang on the other hand:
The 2018 Mustang EcoBoost also also gets dramatically improved performance thanks to a big torque increase of 30 lb.-ft over the current model. In Drag Strip mode with Performance Package and the 10-speed automatic, the 2018 EcoBoost Mustang posts an impressive 0-to-60 mph time of under five seconds.

Furthermore, from the link at the bottom of the article:

Redesigned 5.0-liter V8 with all-new available 10-speed SelectShift® automatic sees power increased to 460 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque

The retuned EcoBoost four-cylinder generates 310 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque

That's the 2.3L 4 cylinder Ecoboost they are talking about.

Mildly interesting, but who really gives a crap about a small bump in power for the 2.3L and 5.0. Everyone is waiting to see what engine is in the next GT500.

I’m sure the GT500 will impress, but bang for the buck, the GT is looking pretty attractive.

Rumor is a supercharged 5.0 pushing 680hp or so.

I agree though 460 out of the GT is awesome bang for the buck, and just add a roush supercharger right off the showroom floor and you're in there.

I've seen the rumor of the 5.2 with FI as well.

Guess we'll find out soon.

That we will, It'd make way more sense for them to use the Voodoo motor instead of the Coyote for sure.
