2019 Cluster malfunction possibly related to bad USB????

I just hit 1800 miles and have not used the USB up until yesterday.

I just wanted to see if anyone else has had or is having issues with the Instrument Cluster.

Scenario: This happened twice in past two days WHILE driving. I plugged my phone into the top USB port for the Sync 3 in the front compartment. The phone initially operates normal. After a few seconds it cycles from charging to not charging. After approximately four or five cycles it stops and my entire Instrument cluster powers down, complete black out, speedo and tach needle zero out, digital display cycles on with FORD SPLASH SCREEN, then shows "Washer Fluid Low" warning, then "Dimming" switch then flickers back off/on, However now the entire digital portion is pixelated (sort of like a computer booting in SAFE MODE and basic graphics).

I unplugged the USB phone cord, nothing changed. I also tried using the bottom USB plug and it is intermittent power but this was following malfunction. I have not attempted the bottom first to see if it crashes.

After parking, shutting the vehicle down and waiting ten minutes or so everything on the cluster operates normally at startup.

Get a video of it and take it to the dealer

Will attempt to. Both times occurred while driving down the highway. I have pictures of the dash after the fact.

My 2019 PB screw had the same issue, except mine had nothing to do with the USB. My entire instrument panel would go in and out while driving. I first noted my issues with the remote start. Long story short...ford dealership had to replace the entire driver dash instrument panel. I never figured out the problem, only that this is happening on a few models. My truck is babied and only sees highway driving. Happened at 2500 miles. So had to be a faulty part. Ford didn’t hassle me... only took my truck for a day to fix it.

Glad they fixed it. I assume no issues since then. I'm going to use the USB and see if I can get it to fail on video. It's the only time its happened. I bought this wireless cradle charger at Verizon and it worked day one, day two within 5 minutes my dash crashed. Same the next day. Needless to say, that got boxed back up.

Sounds like the USB ports are drawing more power than whatever supplies them and the dash panel cannot handle, then it shuts itself down. Maybe a bad batch of 2019 dash panels from Ford's Supplier? Cold solder joint, bad power supply, etc...

i'll betcha the dash control computer is bad. It is located below the glovebox on the underside of the plastic kickpanel on the underside of the dash.

I didn't know that. I'll keep that in mind when I visit the dealer. No issues today with the dash, but the USB port is definitely bad. Intermittent power/signal. Tried three Samsung cords and two phones with no luck. Just cycles from on to off. Tried a USB drive with newest Sync version and keep getting an error saying USB was interrupted.

I have an appointment on Wednesday to look at it. The dealer was surprised and said they haven't had any F150's reporting any issue, but he had a guy with a 2019 Mustang come in with the same dash issue a few hours before me.

Of course it hasn't done it again and will probably not when they have it. I've tried to get it to fail, but no luck. I do know for sure that the USB port is bad. 1st sign was no blue ambient light at all. Also, I couldn't get it to update the Sync. Used the same memory stick for my wife's Ford and it worked. I also pulled the USB out, then pulled the wifeys out and swapped them and it worked in my truck and I updated my Sync.

The Sync system is based on a microsoft operating system, so it functions just like a microsoft computer. You’d be surprised of how many issues can be solved by resetting it. I just had the usb ports go out on my 1 week old 2019 raptor. After doing a little digging in the owner’s manual, I found out how to reset it. Hold the forward seek button on the audio system down along with the audio power button for 3 seconds and it will reset. Worked like charm and my usb ports were up and running again.
