As I posted elsewhere my daughter was in a hit and run accident Sunday in the Raptor. Fortunately she is all right. The truck appears to only have minor damage, a ruined tire, bead lock trim ring, and rear drivers side fender flare trim.

The hit and run driver hit the drivers side rear wheel hard enough to spin the truck 90 degrees. The truck was going 40-50 mph, so that might not have been that hard.

If the damage is only around $1K or so I'll just pay my own way rather than placing a claim with a $1K deductable. What should I look for as far as other damage. The rear end and suspension look fine. What about the wheel, is there some test or check other than is it cracked? thanks...joe

Take it to a good body shop. They will spot things that you likely will not notice. One thing you might need to check is the rear suspension and that things are alas they should be.

I am thinking that I'll have the TPMS put in the spare, and I'll run that one. Then order a new trim ring and tire to put on the spare assuming that wheel checks ok. The rim has some scratches but they might even buff out.

dont stop at just checking the rim. make sure the rest of the vehicle checks out too. dont want to settle and then find more damage later.

You can find a good wheel repair company (there are plenty here in SoCal) and they can fix almost any wheel. They'll reconstruct it and make sure it's true and balanced, etc. And they can plate, paint and clear coat too to make it look just like new. Very often a lot less than buying new wheels.

Get the wheel x-rayed. Collisions can cause internal stress cracks. Also, get you axles checked. Slight misalignment can takes miles to show its self.
