I am in the market for a gen 2 raptor. I thought I had found one private sale but the owner sent me a video of the start up and it sounds like the cam phaser is rattling. Its a 2019 with 48k miles so it is just out of warranty. My question is has Ford been replacing these outside of warranty limits because a recall was issued? Is the phaser issue a serious concern to the health of the engine or is it simply an annoying rattle?

Powertrain warranty is 5 years or 60k miles. Tell the owner to fix it under warranty. I would not buy a truck with cam phasers until it is fixed.

Also … save your money and get a GEN3 as the rear 5-link suspension is much better than the GEN2 rear leaf springs.

TBF, we have a LOT of FRF who were unwilling to go through the stealership tear down and not all of those were “not maintaining” the truck. @FordTechOne has multiple times pointed out the nature of this particular issue and while it sounds bad, it’s apparently not detrimental to long term engine health.

Unless there’s been maintenance service neglect, this in and of itself isn’t necessarily a deal breaker.

Not so much this. Jen Tres has better suspension and electronics, but the 19 already has live valves. Jen Too gives up some wheel well room for 37’s, and suspension can be band-aided with trac bars or torque arm FAR cheaper than even a used Jen Tres.

I have done a lot of research on the cam phaser and nothing that I've found is of detriment to the engine. There are the software updates which have been discussed many times under this subject and actual replacement with the revision redesign 3 cam phaser. The first cam phaser installed in the gen 2 had a plastic pin, the second redesigned had a tone ring issue but the 3rd redesign fixed these problems in either 2020 or 2021. the new cam phasers have a steel pin. I saw where someone stated it was 2020. Even so, other than being annoying everything I've read and heard is that it is not harmful to the engine if it goes unreplaced.

If you are worried about repair bills, look for a truck that is still under full factory warranty. Best thing I ever did was spend a bit extra to find a Raptor that was still under 3/36 month warranty. Then I promptly spent another $3K on an ESP warranty from Flood Ford. Truck now has 79K on it and the warranty has paid for itself many times and its still covered to 125K. I hate dealing with the stealership but I have had no problems getting work done under warranty. Service department knows me by my first name -- some consider this a bad thing...haha. One caveat -- I utilize the full capabilities of my truck, i.e. desert runs, Baja, etc on a regular basis. My $.02 cents
