Take a look at attached video...am I joining the cam phaser/timing chain club? 2018 with +/-30,000 miles

Unfortunately, yes. When you take it in, try to get part numbers of the parts they remove and what they put in. Might be good info to have in general...

I have a 2018 (no engine mods) purchased in Sept of 2017 - approaching 49k miles. I have the "rattle" for the first 1-2 seconds of a cold start. I was unaware it was a cam phaser issue until reading some posts the other day. I'm guessing the dealer will need it overnight just to diagnose (agree) that it is in fact the cam phaser as there is no rattle once the engine is warm and starting back up. Assuming this has not reached recall status with Ford, is anyone having issues with the dealerships agreeing this needs to be addressed asap? I haven't contact my local dealership yet, but plan to do so..

Don't speculate how a dealer will react. Just contact your dealership. I sent my dealership a video and he knew exactly what it was and told me to bring it in.

Others here have had their dealership fight them about what is wrong and some dealership even said the engine rattle is normal. My point is that every dealership is different.

If you have it, then it is much more pronounced (engine rattle) during a cold start.

Well crap, this effects the non-H.O. 3.5L TT too?

Think my wifes expedition makes a quieter version of this here and there... Should it happen every time it cranks up?

My wife's 2018 F150 had it. So yes, it can happen on non H.O. 3.5L TT.

Again, the rattle is more pronounced with a cold start.

Please note, most do not have it but if you read this thread then every engine noise is all the sudden attributed to it.

My wife's 2018 F150:

How far back does this go if it affected the different versions of the engine?

I fell like they are band-aiding this and will move to a new engine before it's ever fully resolved. That's kinda Ford's MO.

Absolutely. Chevy did it with the LS7 V8 in the corvette and Mazda with their transmissions in the Miata ND1 AND ND2.

Just limp them outta warranty until they release the next beta model lineup. They all do it.
