When my Certified Pre-Owned 5.4L blew out a cam chain tensioner
See, now we know you’re fibbing. I have browsed the Jennifer forums and know from reading there that 5.4 engines never had a single problem. All of them.

The lemon law game is complicated and doesn’t lend itself to simple, one size fits all answers. What’s worked for me, you and a few others here may not work on someone else’s particular fact set. You and I may be hard nosed negotiators, and someone reading this might be a marshmallow. The latter is not going to be able to easily implement hard nosed strategy with well funded dealers and manufacturers.

It’s also keen to keep in mind that every person’s goals are slightly different. We are bound to have members who have lost that lovin’ feeling for the Rap, and still others who want another one minus the extended down time drama. For the former, a buyback might not work, it may be better to stick it out go for actual cash; that is, an actual lemon law buy back, with no Ford provided replacement. The latter may want a new truck from Ford.

Having a lawyer represent you at a buy back won’t shut the dealer up. Necessarily. Serving them with a lawsuit absolutely will shut them up, along with drastically changing the dealer to customer relationship, at least as far as service goes.

good luck!

To all those following along. Received a call from RAV today stating that they cannot allow the replacement to be the 2019 as they are not even being produced yet. They need an invoice to complete my case (and seeing that one will not be delivered before the 30 days the case needs to be closed - I must select another replacement). As I've been told that my dealer cannot find a replacement, I have requested RAV to convert my replacement approval into a refund request. In the meantime, my 2019 will stay on order and I will place all funds into the new vehicle (just like buying from scratch - versus converting everything from the old to the new). The only crappy thing about this scenario is, what do I do in the 2-3 months when the first truck is returned? Lots of uber rides and/or rental cars in my future :(

Have been through a buyback with Ford RAV. It takes a LONG time. Whatever timeframe they told you on the phone ... double it. May not be out of a vehicle as long as you think.

Currently dealing with Ford’s RAV team as well for a buyback. Awaiting for an offer of how much I will be getting back. First documented issue with my 18 was 2,000 miles. Hoping I get all of it back. I too was told that Ford is not approving replacements with 2019s as I fought for that for a month and ultimately lost with Ford on that. Still haven’t decided what to replace my raptor with. Am sure going to miss it but this process with Ford is absolutely painful.

It looks like I may be starting the same damn process. They are now flying an engineer in to look at my truck. I’m 40 days in with truck at dealer shop.
They are starting ‘19 production next week, seems like you can push them to stay the route of getting a ‘19. I wish you good luck and you get what you deserve as I know this really sucks and I’m just starting!

Yea, mine was reported at about 5000 miles. But they had me driving all over the place telling me it was "normal operation" until I finally had a chance for them to experience the issue. When they finally got it reported to RAV it was at 7500. They were trying to tell me that I was going to be charged all that depreciation (versus at 5000 miles). Which I was going to fight for once all paperwork came in. Later I find out I can't go with the '19's because they have to close the claim within 30 days (obviously I won't have the 19 by then - so that plan is out the window). I requested my claim to be converted into a refund and I'm still working with my dealer to get the build date on it. Just need to figure out what to do for a vehicle in the meantime.

so that makes 4 in a row right here. ****. what years and what was your problems?

2018. First documented issue was 2,000 miles but it definitely came from the factory with this issue. Water kept leaking inside the cab and it was not from the moonroof. Brought back to the dealer 3 times and got ford to approve a buyback/replacement. Brought back a 4th time and has been there for 4 weeks now. Just talked with Ford RAV today and accepted their offer for buyback. Had enough arguing with them about compensation and took the $800 hit usuage fee.
