I was talking to a local shop about woofer upgrades, they only knew of under the seat upgrade options but i like to have the seats up when I have my two large labs in the car. Is there a behind the seat upgrade option you guys know about that would make a substantial -no pun intended- difference?

I believe you can pull the entire assembly and fit a 10” low profile box behind the seat, check some of the other posts about it. I just replace the 8” with a kicker and Kenwood amp. Easy-peasey and you maintain your stock floor space. with 2 labs, floor space is going to be at a premium back there.

Also check out Guy’s upgrade for under $500 thread, he went with a different sub model.

good luck!

Also, some of the reasons I did not tear out the stock enclosure and cut out the factory sound deadening material and mount a slim enclosure...

Time and expense... the stock radio head unit is average at best and attenuates high and low frequencies when you pump up the volume. A subwoofer is only going to take you so far, unless you open up the dash, add a DSP and a second amp to all the other speakers.

Even then... it isn't a perfect solution and you're talking some bucks. A lot of time and money for an outcome that is less than grand.

Staying with the stock head unit and upgrading the speakers helps tremendously at medium to loud volumes. Low volume (5) is still bland and the very highest volume 25+) still attenuates a little bit but it's leaps and bounds above stock.

Pairing an upgraded stock sub enclosure with it is fairly balanced for what you have and the total package is above average. I'm not sure going with an enclosure without a dsp will make that much difference... it's still going to attenuate some.

Lastly.... to some extent... resale... not everyone wants a truck with the innards gutted out behind the seats. Upgrading the stock enclosure still looks... factory.
