I used a fresh blade on my razor knife, and cut the holes for the bed extender locks. I just pushed in with my finger to feel where the indent was for the hole behind it, and carefully cut the hole. It was slightly smaller diameter than the actual hole, and not perfectly round, but enough material removed, that the factory plastic inserts could still be reinstalled. I had to use a plastic deadblow hammer to get the plastic inserts back in though, they took a little "whack" of the hammer to compress the bedrug and allow them to snap in.

I did the same for the bed extender bolts. Cut a small circular hole for the bolt to go through. I didn't want to do just the "X" cut and have it getting caught in the hole for that large bolt. I may take them off again and add a washer to space each side inwards a bit, they're really snug against the bedrug sides when I rotate the extender in or out.
