I bought a set of beadlock wheels and took off the beauty rings to clean them up. The bolts don't fit well going back into the wheels and I don't want to damage the aluminum wheel. I took the bolt to the local hardware store and bought a die and tap set. I'm concerned they gave me the wrong size as I've never had to put that much torque on to clean a bolt that looks fairly clean to begin with. Can anyone here help me avoid potentially up to $2500 in damage to my wheels? I think they gave me a number 10 with a 1.25 fine thread. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a 10 with an extra fine 1.0 thread pitch... Serves me right for not buying a pitch gauge and figuring it out myself.

Thanks!!!

Do they go in fine without the ring? I've had all my rings off at a shop and they never mentioned there was an issue putting them back on.

The bolts have a yellow loctite on them from the factory. You have to be sure to clean that out of the threads as well.

When I converted mine to true beadlocks, I had two start to gal on me. I hit the lows and bought a tap and die as well. Got the 10 MM-1.50. It fit perfect.

I'd post a pic, but stupid tapatalk needs updated and won't let me. Lol...

I think it's the 10-1.5 if I remember correct. If you really want to be sure you won't mess it up buy a pitch guage, the only way to really make sure.

Thanks guys. Sounds like I have the right tap 10mm 1.5 after all, but a little low on cutting oil. I similarly found the blue lock tight. Rick, you can get them without cleaning them up, but you can damage the aluminum threads. For the rings it seems less an issue, if you anticipate them ever being used for holding on the tire, you don't want to degrade the integrity of the wheel. That aluminum is much softer than the steel bolts going in and much more costly than the bolts to replace.
