Automatic Software Update Bricked my Truck

I’m still convinced the auto updates kill the battery. I’ve since turned it off

A software update should not brick a vehicle.

You are correct but vehicles have become iphones on wheels. They have a full network with all the modules talking to each other via software. Ford in the past outsourced the code but over the past few years have brought everything inhouse. They are trying to become a software company but that doesn't happen over night. I have spent 20 years in software and their quality control is sub par. They will eventually get it right but unfortunately they release the vehicles with a list of knowns issues. We are not notified of these internal issues. As they fix, they send us OTA updates hoping it resolves some of these known issues without most of us exposing them as you have. If you don't have proper software quality control, fixes can cause more bugs/issues.

Every tow truck driver should be required to know how to search YouTube for videos related to overrides. I guarantee you he knows how to search for his favorite video on PornHub. Pure laziness.

Please. He's got beers to finish. Aint' nobody got time for looking up videos on how to tow. Hook that shit up and winch it.

Some of my friends from high school own tow trucks- and they are exactly like you'd expect! Priorities include 4 wheelers, weed, cigarettes and beer. They have tons of kids, tons of tats, and their clogged up septic system is bypassed straight to the creek! They are fun to party with.

That's insane. I wonder what exactly makes it not drivable. There should be some fail back also. Software doesn't boot correctly reverting back to previous version then alerts the diver of issue. Also, not fully power off vehicle until updated and inform driver.

Maybe there is- and something else was the issue? Maybe the battery got too low during the update? It's not like this is happening all the time.

Software updates are problematic to say the least. Businesses are usually about a year behind on Windows updates because they've been burned badly in the past by staying current. A bad AMD graphics card driver was relased a few weeks back that destroyed the existing Windows intallation if you chose the "clean install" option. Clean install indeed- time to reinstall Windows.
