anyone doing e85 ??

i havent seen any topics on this so i was wondering what it would take on our trucks for it to be able to ride on e85 and 91. like a flex fuel kit. i have it on my other car and love it so i was wondering if anyone has done the mods for this, or if anyone even makes flex fuel kits for this truck yet to be able to except 91 or e85 anytime in the tank. at the very least i could just switch maps to e85 or 91 if there isnt a flex fuel kit made for it, but want to know what needs to be changed on the trucks for it to be used?

just did a e30 blend with 91 and changed my tune to this version, and was just blown away at the power difference, i can only imagine what it can do with a full tank of e85 and a tune for it. seems like no one knows what it takes to do on this truck to be able to run all. im sure someone will be making a flex kit for it sooner or later.

OK, I am confused. I am sure that Ethanol has less energy than plane gas. Why would this be good? When I find non-ethanol gas and use it, my mileage goes up on my Jeep. Please educate me.

E85 allows more timing advance. Can always add more fuel to recover the difference.

You can move timing all you want, but if what you are burning has less energy (btu) it will produce less power. Not only that, but my understanding is that it takes more energy to make ethanol than you get out of it, so the "saving the planet crap" is just that, crap. Also ethanol attracts water, which you really don't want in your fuel. You won't catch me putting that stuff in my Raptor.

For my Golf R it increases the HP by about 90hp. I go from about 480 rear wheel HP on 91 octane to 570 rear wheel HP on E85.

Don’t care if you never use it, but you should do your research before condemning a fuel’s potential based on false assumptions. E85 has MUCH more potential to make power than pure unleaded. It does have a lower stoic ratio than gasoline, ~7to1 vs ~14to1 for pure gasoline, so the fuel supply system must be able to handle the additional volume.

Agree with your non-saving the planet crap though!

No idea what planes use but I have heard that e85 is about the same as 108 octane gas other than the obvious differences. Yes it burns faster but with a huge ass tank like the raptor I really wouldn't care ,I have been using it on my gtr 6 years now and the power difference is just like gettin another tune on it its huge,. Even with the e30 blend I did the difference from just 91 power was huge for me..since I have to fill this thing up twice anyway to get it full doing the blend on same gas station is perfect in the city

That’s what it’s all about, the octane level. E85 has a higher resistance to detonation. So you can have a much more aggressive tune than on 93 pump gas and still run relatively safely.

For a normal driver (commute from point A to point B in your basic ass vehicle) E85 doesn’t do much. It makes less power per gallon of fuel, so your mpg will suffer, but the fuel is cheaper so it’s kind of a wash.

My 2009 Sierra 1500 was flex fuel capable. Never ran “corn” because I didn’t have tune to make use of the higher octane. However, I believe fuels with higher ethanol content are more corrosive. So I think flex fuel capable vehicles are engineered with more corrosion resistant materials in the fuel system, are they not? (Like fuel lines, etc?) Any reliable kit would probably need to address that issue??
