Well e85 is like race gas if you get a station that always has a good mix. I've been told that can be a problem, especially in the winter. Granted most the people I know that are using it are 700+ HP high compression cars so detonation is very important to them.

I can say without question the flex motor fuel system is different then the one on these 6.2 Raptors. I had the FX4 5.4 flex and did a considerable amount of testing between the two fuels. The fuel systems are significantly different in the 5.4 had stainless steel everything related to fuel. The loss of fuel mileage varied from 22% to 31% difference. If your not getting E85 for under 3.00 per gallon and regular fuel is 4.00 per gallon your going to brake even. Even in the owners manual it stated that before each oil change you must run a full tank of regular fuel not E85.. It was apparent on the Flex motor a lot attention was given to the fuel system to avoid contact with any kind of rubber components. It takes more E85 to get the same performance as compared to E10... Now if I can only find clear gas with no ethanol in my area..

I've been looking for ethanol free gas in California too (central coast area) with no luck. I think they sell it at fomoso speedway. But that's too far for me.

I am not an expert, but have done quite a bit of research before I converted my LS motor . Most fuel systems after 1990 are probably ok and almost every car after 2000 has a fuel system that can deal with E85. The cap states that because the motor and fuel delivery system is not tuned or capable of delivering that much more fuel. The 5.4 flex is designed from the factory , I bet most or all the soft material part numbers are the same in both trucks . The ethanol fuel is corrosive but nearly a such as methynol. I have been running E85 for two years and haven't had any adverse effects contrary to all the things people said before I converted. So far so good. Again i wouldn't run my raptor on it, but it has advantages for a race gas motor. Tim

I did a TON of looking before putting my Lightning on E85. Most people said it could be done without a 2k fuel system to replace everything. I there was one guy who said just tune it and go, so thats what I did and it worked out. Will my pumps and injectors hold up 600hp, no but they will do 550.

I would say that EVERY vehicle after 1997 could do this. If you are building a fuel system to be Ethanol resistant you would end with more of a yay/nay thing. I work in the petroleum industry and have never run across something that is only "sort of" ethanol resistant, it either is or isn't.

I think that the problem would be more in the pumps in and injectors having enough room to be able to feed the engine the larger volume needed.

I do accept that without the flex fuel capability I would either have to be all E85 or all gas, thats not a problem. It would be the first time that I have flashed a tune in at a gas pump.

Does anybody know how much power can be made on a stock fuel system on gasoline?

There certainly are a lot of nay sayers when it comes to using E85 . I can't tell how many people gave me the " it will eat your fuels system up" speech . Since most fuel now has some ethanol in it , the fuel systems have to be designed to not degrade from it. For my sand car application it was a great move. I got some free horsepower and even with increased consumption still have an overall reduced cost from the VP 110. Tim

Most compare E85 with regular gas but it should really compare with Premium or even some of the lower grades of race gas. When you compare $3.xx/Gal to $8.xx+/Gal its a no brainer.
