I know that one of the popular items at this time to buy or build for a Raptor is a bed cage. I went about to modify one that one of the inmates here passed along to me. It was basically what I was going to build and he saved me a lot of time having to purchase and bend the tubing the way I wanted it. I also wanted it to be some what modular and have a large enough space when I am not out doing a Raptor run or playing so I can carry the dogs in the back. I also wanted something I could do variouis set ups like have two spare tires and carry items in boxes etc. So here's what I came up with.
I installed two ammo boxes. The one on the passenger side is a Compressor ready to plug into installed electrical plug in bed that is controled by upfitter switch in cab. A 2-3 gal tank will be added later where spare tire used to be under bed. The elec. plug is for a trolling motor as that is the only way to get a large enough 8G from front to back that will run the compressor with a quick connect fitting.
The other box on the left are my handtools in various boxes and bags to make it easier to take out and to the work area that needs repairs. It's not always at the back of your truck and carrying an entire tool box can be very cumbersome sometimes. Especially if you are in a line of vehicles and you have to take that one tool up to or back to the truck needing worked on.
Very basic and light weight using stock bed bolts.
As a past rock crawler, I have found that the hi-lift is much more usable in an off-road vehicle than just a floor jack to get the truck unstuck, change the tire or lift the truck off of an object. easy storage with the right configuration.
Theres enough room for my ice chest and gas cans with much more room left over for take along items like camp gear, parts etc.
More to come.
