Has any one else installed the new AFE Transmission Pan and had fit issues. I recently ordered the pan from Chris at Freedom Motorsports. The order was filled and shipped to me by SDHQ. The pan looks great. I removed the old pan and tried to install the new pan it would not fit. It was hitting against the casting on the valve body of the transmission on the right side. In order to make this work I had to file the rough casting on the edge of the valve body of the transmission, as well as the rough casting of the pan rail. Fits good now, looks great

The two attached pictures show the amount of filing needed to get the pan to fit.

The second issue I have is after running it for a day or so is I have leak or a seep coming from the casting on the pan itself I contacted Chris at Freedom Motorsports right away. He is great to deal with. He did everything he could to help me with these issues. He left messages at AFE customer support he also gave me the number for me to try. I left a message have not heard back yet. I also tried to email customer support at AFE Does anyone else know of any other ways to get issues resolved by AFE??

The photos above show the leak I have. It appears to me that the casting of the pan may be porous. I have plans of doing the Dirty Dozen run in Maine in just over a week, I would like to get this resolved before head

I posted it here because I really did not know where to post it.

Let me know your thoughts or any issues that you have had. Thank you

Good to see the vendors here trying to get the issue resolved. I haven't bought anythign from SDHQ yet but I've done business with Chris.

While we always hope things go well, it's how a company handles itself when things go wrong that really sets them apart.

I had somewhat similar problems with the installation of the aFe transmission pan. See page 5, 6, and 7 here: http://www.fordraptorforum.com/f7/transmission-smoother-after-fluid-exchange-34474/index5.html

I also had a great experience with Chris at FreedomMotorsports, but he couldn't get a rise out of aFe after multiple attempts. I couldn't get them to respond, either.

In my case, I think that at least two of the bolt holes on the aFe pan are slightly misaligned. My suspicion is that they used the factory gasket to determine where the holes should be and not the factory transmission housing itself. Regardless, I found that the aFe pan would bind against the mounting bolts regardless of the technique you use. Chris advised me against making modifications to the aFe pan because it would eliminate the possibility that I could return it, so I used it as-is. With the binding against the mounting bolts, there's no way to get a reliable torque reading on those bolts. Actually, several of those bolts can't be reached with a torque wrench anyway. No leaks yet, so I guess my semi-calibrated right arm is fairly reliable.

Bottom Line: The aFe transmission pan is not ready for prime time, installation is therefore preposterously difficult, and aFe won't respond to inquiries about it.

That's too bad, I really have been watching for info about a larger pan. I did a larger cooler and extra heat exchanger but I have not towed my sandcar since then. Keep us up to date as the outcome . Tim

Tim, Raptor911 has found an alternative: Ford Raptor Transmission Pan

I spoke to Steve at AFE the other day about this and he was very helpful. They were unaware of fit issues. I sent him all my pictures and he was suppose to look into everything and was also suppose to inspect the new pan before sending it to me His email address is [email protected] attn Steve baker

I know Chris at freedom was a great help and. Jason at SDHQ went above and beyond. This customer service is why I will continue to support SDHQ and Freedom Motorsports in any way that I can.
