Your winch is hidden and won't see much light, unlike an exposed spool on a jeep or something.  I have some 10 years old that sees regular use that is still perfectly good.  I use 1" tubular webbing from a climbing store to protect the rope from sharp edges.  Just get 10 feet of it and slip it over the winch rope and keep it near the hook end.  Then, you can slide it to wherever you need it when you are using the winch.</p></blockquote><p></p>
