I am not familiar with the PowerCore filters (I know Donaldson makes good stuff, though). What are the advantages?

Power Core filters are made by Donaldson. Benefit is extreme filtration.
Theres also a new G2 Donaldson filter coming out. Filters are not cheap at $89
But they are standard filters that Ford uses on diesel SD trucks in past.

I have a Volant with the Powercore. would you need to know anything specific about the intake to make a tune for my 5.4L ?

No sir all we need to know is that you have an air aid brand to make adjustments to fueling.
