3rd brake light option? Anzo sucks.

Stay with OEM for the authentic true Gen 1 look. I've seen more than a few post here where people went with after market and were not happy and went back to the OEM light.
I like the looks but the drilling part is what makes me want to steer clear from this setup. GJ motorsports makes a similar one with no required drilling but again $650-700 for a 3rd brake light is a tough pill to swallow. Then again if you have had to replace your factory brake light 2-3x, your at that cost.

Like an idiot I cut the harness off to hardwire in the "forever" Anzo unit so now I don't have the 3 lights that would go in the stocker. Does the OEM come with the harness / bulbs? Ugh.
If you decide to go factory, or even the dorman equivalent, it does come with the harness, however that doesn’t help you assuming you cut the harness on the truck side of the wiring. With that your only options are to cut the harness off the new factory light and splice to the truck wiring or you could even push the truck side wires into the connector and hope they stay put(if that makes sense)

I would recommend an aftermarket that can be used as a dust light also. Best of both worlds. Evil, Dirt Kartel, and GJ all make nice ones. Mine is from Evil and works great. Dust lights, brake lights, running lights, and bed light all while being super bright.

Looks great. Its the drilling and price that kills it for me lol

This is exactly what I did. Can anyone identify the connector I cut off or a link to I I would rather splice back in the OEM female connector on the chassis side so I can buy a new OEM light and plug it in. Anyone else done that?

For some reason I feel like dovetailing my bed is far less scary than drilling into the roof of the cab, otherwise I love Evil's 3rd brake light setup. Also, those cheap LED 3rd brake lights leak moisture inside the cab and rust out the cab corners. I'm thinking of using the GJ Motorsports one since it doesn't require drilling. Thinking of using red spots on the outsides and a clear work/scene in the middle so that it retains the factory third brake light look.

Maybe I am losing my mind. Maybe I never cut the connector off... tell me like I'm an idiot where the connector should be and how to find it? Pull the headliner?

Good question. I started pulling on mine till it didn’t pull anymore. I ended up just swapping out the harness and bulbs with the old light. I suspect it’s up in there somewhere .7CE42625-E2CE-4CFC-A529-4F3367736509.jpeg
