2021 Raptor Suspension Noise

Hey guys,

I really want to love this truck, but I have the dreaded clunk coming from my passenger side front end. I have taken it to the dealer, they said they cant find anything wrong (big surprise). I had Ford re-torque the lower strut mount bolt...made no difference. I took it to a great off road shop around me and they said the problem was in the strut. I'm pushing my Ford service center to replace the strut, but haven't had luck yet. I just wanted to start a thread and see if anyone else ends up having the same issue with their Gen 3 Raptor.

Making threats will get you nowhere; they can’t produce parts out of thin air. This issue is an annoyance, it has nothing to do with the safety or operation of the truck. The parts availability information that someone posted is unverified and came from customer care; nowhere is that documented.

The best course of action is to document the concern with the dealer, as OP did. That warranty claim goes to Ford; when they see a significant number of claims for the same issue, they investigate and develop a solution.

I agree with everything you said. On the other hand - someone reported that Ford told them they have a defective shock eligible for warranty replacement but warranty replacements are not available from Fox until 2023. Until someone hears otherwise, that's the best information we have coming out of Ford.

Unless Ford is not going to produce any Raptors until 2023, or is going to ship every Raptor until 2023 with similarly defective shocks, they obviously have the parts somewhere. It might take some badgering to get them to use some of that supply for warranty replacements as opposed to new trucks they will make money on.

The fact that it isn't a safety or operational issue isn't really relevant here. Raptors are not work trucks being used by tradesmen to get to the jobsite, they're luxury vehicles that are basically toys and daily drivers for well-off people. We're paying $80k+ for brand-new trucks with a bumper-to-bumper warranties, Ford needs to keep their side of the bargain and fix defective parts, even if they're just "annoyances". These are not being purchased merely for utility.

And it's not about making threats. If Ford is selling defective trucks and cannot repair them, they are obligated to buy them back. Simple as that. It's not a threat, it's pointing out the reality of the situation in terms that the Ford bureaucracy can understand. This might be necessary to get them to take any action other than passively telling people to wait.

Weird I did all those things yesterday. Two bum rear shocks is what they said. Will see how she goes

So I wish that I would have seen this earlier, as I was dealing with the same issue with my Gen 3 but my issue was in the rear right. The shock was leaking all over my driveway and it was really loud when I even hit the smallest bump. Did you see any leaking in the area where you hear the noise and it may be completely empty of the fluid at this point which is when mine really got loud in my opinion. It took the dealer to bring the truck in to verify and diagnose that the shock was faulty but they did replace quickly once identified. I hope this helps you out because I was freaking out as well.

I was just researching this on my 2022. I had a 2011 with the same behavior. I had a lengthy and informative call with Fox about this. They said it’s the fluid in the shocks and the external bypass. Kind of made sense. The fact my new one does this seems to confirm this.
