sounds like a fuel or spark issue to me. Any way to log and narrow it down to see if all cylinders or just a few. I would also check for any boost or exhaust leaks. Dirty maf is also possible? Just some thoughts.

Technically, it's afterfire, and my 2017 regularly registered a misfire fault via the FordPass app and had a lot of afterfire, although the afterfire only happened immediately after a fuel fill-up. I've only ever used 93 octane. The misfire started happening occasionally after 15,000 miles, and the afterfire started after I added a Roush CAI and Stainless Works exhaust and downpipes. A few weeks ago, I replaced the plugs gapped to .028 and added the JDM tune, and both issues have completely stopped. Unfortunately, I'm now worried about tires and the transmission, because the tune made such a difference, I'm constantly driving in Baja mode/2WD and stomping on it.

Do you have a catch can? I wonder if maybe some crap buildup is doing it as well. Could be a lot of things make a list and start checking them off one by one basically is what I do on my other turbo vehicles.

Mine will usually do some loud back fires after I get a new tank of gas from a random gas station.... Probably something fuel related....

Truck kinda feels sluggish on throttle and then a few huge gunshots ring out of the exhaust.... Only last a few seconds then it seems like the truck adjust to the new gas. Doesn't happen all the time but I have noticed it happen maybe a dozen times or more since new.

So what was the final fix or remedy ???? I’m having the exact same issue with truck misfiring and backfiring and it always seems to happen at 80-85 mph or when I’m stepping on it. Dealer is tearing me a new one with all their bs “fixes” that aren’t fixing. First I needed a turbo, then water pump, then it was plugs - de carbonization of engine - and injectors cleaned, and it’s still happening. Please help

I'd replace the coils then.
