2017 Lemon?

Hi All,

Just purchased my 2017 fully loaded Raptor (25k miles) a month ago from the Ford dealership and brought it back to the Ford dealership last week as I have begun to hear some rattling when I start it up. Called today for an update and they told me that the truck has some "significant transmission issues" and parts had to be ordered from Ford that are being waited on.

I purchased the full extended warranty, but needless to say, I am pretty bummed about it and a little angry that this wasn't discovered when they did the inspection a month ago when it was sold to me. I paid $50k for this truck and really not happy to already have these significant issues and feel like I am now driving a refurb.

What are my options at this point, if any? Thanks in advance!

How long have you had it and how many mile have you put on it since the sale?

That's a bummer. 2017 was the 1st year of the 10-speed transmission in the F150. They did suffer from some teething pains so let's hope the dealer repairs the tranny to your satisfaction.

going through similar issue with my 2017, though not transmission related (cam phasers). toyed with the lemon law route, really didnt think it was worth the hassle. truck's getting fixed, hopefully the issue doesnt repeat itself, but that's why I paid for the extended warranty. at least its covered.

Needing repairs doesn't make a vehicle a "lemon". A competent auto trans technician can repair the transmission in less than a day, that is what they do day in and day out. Most have the Workshop Manual procedures memorized.

I would bring your concerns up to the General Manager at the dealership that sold you the vehicle. Although the issues may not have been present when the dealership inspected the vehicle (if they even did) before selling it to you, most customers in your situation are going to be upset, and understandably so. Did they at least give you a loaner vehicle?

You're a long ways away from even being able to consider lemon laws. You have two options. Realistically I only see two options. Let them fix it or don't let them fix it. You DID buy the extended warranty should issues arise afterall. If it is transmission related, I would simply try pushing for a new one vs rebuilding.

Well, you got the warranty. Just gotta hope they only need it once to fix it.

Unless the truck was throwing a code back then, or rattling back then, I'm not sure what the dealer could of done? May of been a pure shit luck issue, or maybe the previous owner tried his best to cover up the noise before trading it in(if even possible).

This is a good suggestion. Although I have faith that a good transmission tech will be able to diagnose and repair it correctly, an entirely new unit would add a lot of piece of mind. They'll probably claim that the warranty company will only cover a repair and not a replacement, at which point I'd bring up your concerns regarding the fact that you just spent $50K with them and dealer should make up the difference between the warranty coverage and the cost of a new unit. It's certainly worth a try.

It would be nice to know if the cam phasers were done yet. I would hate to get it back and then have to give it back for the phasers. Good luck
