The amsoil story is worth a read. Nothing to do with the oil. Just a good story. google Albert Amatuzio Wikipedia. His son Alan as well

That would be great. I have the hlz parts. I’m hoping the software update 21b10 keeps me out of trouble

In the attached an HLZ part is shown on the left, and the MLZ part is on the right. Previously in this post I stated that I'd not seen a failure mode like the one that started this thread. A disclaimer... Ive looked all over the place on the forums for pictures of failed parts. There aren't...

another observation, the rotor veins did not leave any markings on the well hole plate. But did on the back plate and not symmetrically. One side in your picture shows no wear. But near where the spring cap is, there is lots. Like the rotor was not planar with the gear and plate or something.

Thank you very much for the pictures. The plate with the intended well hole looks very close to as-designed. Maybe slight beveling to the right. Hard to tell. They come from the factory with a slight bevel which you can see in my picture. But typically, at least in the CC parts, that’s the...

Yes but…. Nobody has much experience with seeing CD failed parts, so I’m not saying much.

This is how that plate started life. Plastic bit shown about where your wear is. And the other image is how the opposing well hole starts life. What you usually see is the well hole becomes beveled out on one side. The side away from the filling channel. Towards the right in this image. It...

Oh this is cool! Thanks mate. So what’s interesting to me is the wear pattern on the back plate. That plate on a new CD part is completely flat. And typical failure is in the well pin hole on the gear side, not the back plate. Do you still have the entire assembly and if so, would you mind...

    Raptor Regret?

I’ve got I4’s, v6s, i6s, v8s, and one v10. They all sound different and I like them all. Having said that, sound doesn’t make my decision making list. No regrets on a gen2 for me. Somebody should write a phone app and tie the obd2 rpm to a Bluetooth engine sound allowing you to select...

    Phasers - From the top

The attached is autoSS in action. Ive removed a few traces that don't need to be there. From top to bottom we have: - Phaser Closed loop control indication - Exhaust 1 PWM - Intake 1 PWM - Exhaust 1 Actual Phaser angle - Intake 1 Actual Phaser Angle - Accelerator Pedal Position - Oil Pressure...

    Phasers - From the top

Maybe. Depends on how often the event in my post happens. Like whether it does it every time. There are other places in a longer version of that trace where the same conditions exist and there is no locking. Also the above trace is with the forscan method of disabling autoSS. Suppose that...

    Phasers - From the top

This is not an auto stop. However, it does show that parking the phasers happens during normal operation and when an engine stop might be anticipated. Sorry for the sloppy annotation. At time 933.33, I let off the throttle. (3rd trace from bottom). At time 958.66, the truck rolls to a stop...

    Phasers - From the top

Yes, the basic line of thinking is that at engine stop, the phasers go to their home positions forcefully under oil pressure. At the same time, the oil pressure on the side of the phaser which floats the lock pin is removed, allowing the pin to be pushed under spring force into the pin well. As...

    Phasers - From the top

Easy enough to prove/disprove. The park command is is all pwms to 0%. But, unless anybody really cares, I’m not going to bother. I’ve disable auto start stop for this and other reasons. My opinion is it would be a bit silly to not park phasers at engine stop. But I’ll believe what it tells me...

The scope readings. These aren't too useful yet. Need more constant load and steady state situations. One thing that jumps out. At 266 seconds the intake does a short pin lock. I wonder what that's about. It's after acceleration and coming down to no load idle Hot Start - open_loop Oil...

    Phasers - From the top

There has been a lot of phaser posts on this forum. Mostly those have been about warranty work. This post is about what I wanted to know and couldn’t find. It’s not about when to advance and retard. It’s about how Ford brings those actions about. Theory can be found in other places not...

Cam Phaser Issue & Warranty Info

Hangon... I was seemingly not wrong on post #52. It's simply that the intake and exhaust have different locking locations and feed from different chambers. The exhaust lock pin ejects on retarding oil pressure. The intake ejects on advance pressure. The exhaust phaser lock position is...

Cam Phaser Issue & Warranty Info

Regarding my post #52. I picked up used MLZ and HL3Z...-CD exhaust phasers and took them apart. Neither showed wear, but I don't know their respective histories .... I learned something taking them apart and I don't want to be the source of bad info so some corrections. The post is mostly...
