That's GREAT word MPK1996! So you're sayin' the Wilwood kit might work with stock knuckles and their kit has extra thick (heavier) rotors? Lets talk about comparing the stock caliper weight vs Wilwood vs SSBC? SSBC is less expensive, isn't it? Is the SSBC heavier cause of the 8 pistons? Any...
I've never heard of this problem. Anyone else see this? Are you in the rust belt Irregular? I'm on the left coast and my slotted rotors hardly rust, ever.
Thanks for the heads up VTwin! I didn't realize RA had such a decent selection of 'high performance' brake rotors. Although I'm not a fan of straight slotted brake rotors, for $100 ea I'd try the 'S' slot Raybestos or AC Delco (they look identical), because I really liked the Hawk Talon rotors...
Hey 602;
Isn't the Doug's kit for all intents and purposes, giving you the same positioning and travel as the KHC buckets? Doug's kit doesn't restrict travel does it? Lol, well if you ever go to KHC buckets, LMK, I'll buy your Doug's G2's and/or trade you Gen 2 shocks and cash...
Whoa!! It sold for $57k on BoT??
Can ya tell us what it cost you Bvita, with that few miles?? Just curious if one day I've got to replace mine, with 138k miles, knock on wood!
Are those OEM half shafts Tom or better?
Why does one SVC threaded seat look like it's so much higher than the other? Is it just loose, and moved away from it's circlip? Dang I was hoping I could adjust the Gen 2 shocks downward to make up a fraction of the increase in height over Gen 1....
Interesting Cookie Monster, thanks for the heads up! I'm about to do this service on my 138k 2014 Screw. Mine runs smooth so I'll just keep my coils, replace the 8 resistors and boots, wires and plugs.
Thanks Tom. Looks like with C.A.S., if you need negative movement to lower the truck, it's not a whole lot, right? Less than half an inch? Tell me where you are with your project? Are you finding any benefit with those CAS adjustment system? I'm in the brainstorming stage, I've picked up a set...
Yea I'm familiar with that e-brake posi. I've got the e-locking diff, so e-brake posi does not work. I mostly drive my truck to work, so I'm getting the one-wheel squeal often, leaving a stop and such. Truck is wonderfully fun to drive on the street, just would like to get power to both rear...
Thanks for doing all this Tom, this is a big help! I had no idea there was a slip-over threaded body kit for the Gen 2 shocks! Wonder if this C.A.S. is still available? I couldn't find them on the SVC site, but BahaHQ has them on their site. I'm sitting on a set of Gen 2 fox shocks too and have...
Seems like a crazy question, but is there such thing as an electronic locking rear differential for Raptors that's LSD when it's not locked? Asking because I'm tired of the one tire fire whilst on the street. I'd rather go forward than spin one wheel...
Were those stainless braided lines a nice improvement? Is that something we should do regardless of brake kits? What fluid did you use and what would you recommend?
Check this out - FRF user said his 6 piston Wilwood kit was considerably lighter than the OEM brakes. That's GREAT news!
Wilwood...
Funny you ask, I'm just towing about 5k-6k, would be my guess, however, my old 1/2 ton trucks didn't have as sophisticated a transmissions as this Raptor, with all these modes. I don't go excessively fast, on the left coast I'd be paying an arm and a leg to speed while towing. There's just one...
Thanks P4SHOCAT, this gives me some confidence. It's really all about transmission programming and if the transmission can get rid of all that braking heat. I think I'll upgrade to the bigger Saudi trans oil cooler. Heard that drops trans temps considerably.
Good tip Shocat, I'll try that. Do you notice that helps on downhills while towing?
I saw that mentioned elsewhere, earlier downshifts and what not, jumped in my truck this morning and realized I didn't even know where that tow-haul button was located :-P !!! Found it on the shift stalk! Duh...
Yea I've seen cracked cross-drilled rotors. My preference would be no holes, just the SSBC dimples with subtle slotting, that would be about perfect. Wish I could afford full Alcon brakes, but I've got too many other hobbies I'm vested in. In the past I've modded my trucks, jumped and broke...
Outstanding! You got some very nice Fox monotubes with external bypass adjustments on the back. 3.0 Fronts look good too. Please share with us how that Sync 4 display and Sync 3 upgrade works out for ya. I don't know what I'm missing with Sync 2, and haven't started the search, but Apple Car...
See? That's the voice of reason from Radelow! What are your preferred rotors, pads and in particular, your fluid choice? Driving in loose dirt, I'm thinking you're absolutely right, the stock brakes will be fine. I occasionally tow a boat, about 5,500 lbs, and on hills, it can overtax some oem...
So far the kits I've mentioned were designed to fit 17" wheels but I don't have firsthand experience. Nick could tell ya. I know the SSBC kit is an ultra low profile design for challenging fitments. I think that might be why it has 8 small pistons as opposed to 6 larger ones that might require...
Your story keeps getting better, thanks! You did very well! Someone invested quite a bit of change in that build for sure!
Are you sayin' the dash touch screen was replaced with Gen 4? Synch 3? Didn't know that was a thing. Please do post pics, whenever's convenient...
Thanks Nick. Can you pm me a quote on that in Red? I think cross drilled only would be my preference. I had a set of Hawk Quiet Slot rotors on my 2500 HD and they were fantastic. Great smooth bite and I didn't feel the exaggerated bite through the pedal like with some heavy full width slots...
Hey Nick, thanks for your imput. So you're sayin' for the money, these Wilwoods rival the Alcon kits?
Is there anything else needed or advised to install this, i.e. stainless brake lines? It looks like the SSBC kit does not include the rotors in the picture, but I could be wrong....
I get where you're coming from, and I don't do anything cheap myself. I'm talkin' about $2,000 vs $5,000, or a JY Brembo retrofit?
Realistically, this below is more likely. Has anyone tried these SSBC's? 8 piston calipers, link below. I think Freedom Motorsports is in IL? I'm on the left...
