For the undercarriage, I used a wire brush on any rust/corrosion, then treated with Loctite extend, then painted with MRO, then hit everything with HDMP. I used a little CLR on the KHC exhaust, then hand polished it with Barkeeper’s Friend.
My over all thought is that if I could do it again, I’d probably just have a shop do it. Things that slowed me down were: brake lines, hard-line relocation, leaking axle boots (have a long-travel shop build up your axles), and bed-bolts. It was fun and I learned a lot, but it was a major time...
