Best idea of the bunch. I will research what is on the Harley. Maybe I can find a wrecked one and swap in its t-case into my truck.

Except that's not what I am doing. But I don't want to have to pretend I'm on ice, either!

That would certainly work, if I were street-racing in the rain. What I am talking about happens in normal rain driving, and I want a solution that doesn't require all that manual intervention.

    Traction Issues

That's odd, because a '203 is usually very hard to break, even though it uses a chain drive for the front. And especially in mud, where you don't have lots of traction. I think many of these 'cases were ruined by people filling them up with 80W90 gear lube, when SAE 30 engine oil is what New...

I am looking for some tires with better wet traction. That plus tubesand (or the 4 old tires, in the bed!) should improve things.

    Traction Issues

Me too, just not in rain on wet roads.

    Traction Issues

The diesel-drag guys use 4-hi all the time at the strip, and I have never heard of front driveline failure. Lots of transmissions and the occasional engine, but not t-cases or front axles.

You normally don't need 4x4 in rain, unless you have a very overpowered truck that is light in the rear, like a Raptor. TCS will probably insulate Ford from any liability suits (been a lawyer for many years), but the better practice would have been a selectable part-/full-time 4x4 system with...

Me too. I thought a "reply" would be placed with the post it pertained to. So I was supposed to use quote?

    Traction Issues

It's not enough because 99% of the time, "wet" is not enough to allow the driveline to un-bind. Mud, snow and ice are slick enough to unbind all the time.

    Traction Issues

    My problem exactly.

TCS will shut things down, eventually. Not good enough, IMO.

LOL, why didn't I think of that?

    Traction Issues

Me? I'm just driving. No lock at all unless I select it, just one-wheel spin (lots of it). I agree with you about not using 4-hi on pavement, unless you have snow, mud or ice. You can lock the rear for short straight distances w/o hurting anything, but I wouldn't make a regular practice of it.

Good way to wear out tires and break parts, too, if you do it enough.

    Traction Issues

Well, let me offer some perspective here, seeing as how I have been 4-wheeling since 1977. Back in the 70s, before the '79 Iran crisis drove gas prices over $1.00 a gallon, all the big three (and Jeep) were offering fulltime 4wd systems. GM: if you chose an auto trans, you got the NP203...

    Traction Issues

I emailed with Torsen yesterday. It's a front locker, so wouldn't help my problem. But the good news is that it will retrofit directly to earlier models, and can be used on the street (if the road is snowy) without being a hazard to steering the way a front air-locker would be.

    Traction Issues

I have a problem. It's a nice problem to have, but it's still a problem. The 6.2L engine makes so much low-end torque that, anytime the road is wet, I either have to feather-foot it away from a light or engage the rear e-locker. If I don't, I will get tremendous wheelspin from one wheel...
