So I recently got my truck back after service and now every time I shut it down after a long drive I hear a noise from under the truck that sounds like there's a liquid hitting something hot and reacting to it. It's not the standard noise of the exhaust pipes cooling, it'a a very noticeable pop...
There's apparently a service bulletin on this issue that says that the issue is a faulty valve cover gasket and requires replacement (not sure if it's just the gasket or the whole valve cover).
If this were consistent to every vehicle with this engine one could make the argument that it is symptomatic of this engine and stretch the definition of 'normal.' But this issue is obviously a malfunction that manifests only on a small percentage of vehicles. Honestly there isn't anything...

So the Llumar matte film has been good and bad. It does its job protecting the paint and looks great.
The problem is that mine came from a defective batch of film, and had areas where the film had darker stripes. This was a widely reported issue...
Alright, I gave it a try but time has run out to make this happen out West.
The truck is getting shipped back to SC next week where it will live for the foreseeable future.

I think the idea that it's exhaust related is mistaken, at least that's not how it sounds to me. The theory that it might be vapor recovery system related sounds more plausible, although I'm not sure how that would work...
