So recently had a new long block and turbos installed by a local Ford Dealership, and ever since then I have had issues with the brake light coming on.
When I first crank the truck, I have to drive it about 30 minutes then the light will come on and a warning on the dash will say to check the...
Yea I will wait to see his response as I’m still not following. I can be dumb sometimes. I just would never think that ford would warranty a replacement for a 200k mile motor.
So stopped by the dealership to get a better understanding of what was wrong. So the story is the engine tech believes without tearing it down to confirm, it’s a main bearing. And they don’t tear down motors to just replace what wrong with high mileage motors as it’s too much of a liability. And...
So they said that when it was cold started there was nothing really abnormal except for some cam phaser rattle. So they replaced it and im assuming they didn't even drive it but cold started it again. When the sound wasn't there they said it was fixed. When I drove it, it didn't start running...
Well it def is a pucker moment. They just called me and its new motor time. With new turbos and long block it will be 13k plus taxes. So around 14k. FML.
Well, picked it up and didn’t even get 1/2 mile before it started doing it again. So I just dropped it back off and they will get back with me tomorrow since the “engine guy” already left for the day. They said they drove it for around 10-15 miles after the phaser replacement and it didn’t make...
Just got the call that the truck was completed. Here is the invoice showing what was done.
I havent picked it up yet so I cant confirm that the noise/problem is in fact gone. Just taking their word for it right now.
-edit- is that a new phaser from before? Part number seems that way.
Def very strange as I have never heard of the newer parts failing. Im just hoping that's all it is and I don't have to come out of pocket for anything.
It must be pretty bad because it sounded nowhere near the same as when the phasers were bad the first time.
Part numbers they installed last time are:
HL3Z-6C525-CD for the cam
HL3Z-6256-CD for the cam sprocket
Everything else was bolts, belt/chain, antifreeze etc
Yea, I was getting the cam phaser rattle bad in dec of 20 but since I was at 162k I had to pay out of pocket. When I get home Ill look at the receipt and see what part they installed. I know it was around $2700 for part and labor.
Just got off the phone with the Ford Dealership.
Apparently the noise is from the cam phasers and will be fixed for free under warranty. (I paid out of pocket December of '20 @162k miles).
Def relieved and hopefully thats all that was was wrong.
Dropped it off at the local ford dealership for a diagnosis. They will let me know sometime this week. I will update this post when I find out. Hopefully it wont be too bad.
Man that would be awesome if that was it and would explain the squealing sound I heard before the loss of power. But the knock is what’s throwing me off. All the pulleys that have gone bad in the past for me have made a squeaking type sound
Thanks for your time and opinion. I will be taking it to the dealer soon to get a quote to repair. Just wanted to get some opinions before I took it so I won’t freak out when the call me with the diagnosis.
I immediately checked the oil and it was fine and showed plenty on the dipstick. Although it is due for a change. 5kish miles.
Would this require a long or short block to fix? Truck has almost 207k miles on it.
Did a spirited drive and got up to 100mph, shortly after doing so there was a loud squeal like a belt slipping/seized pulley and a loss of power. Squeaking stopped. Pulled over and popped the hood and the truck soon died while idling. Wouldn’t crank until it was jumped. Once it cranked it...
