^This is spot on. Same thing as the Black Widow conversion that my wife was pining for when we were truck shopping. I said no friggin way and that these guys are the same as the van conversion guys back in the 70's and 80's.
No way they are anywhere close to the engineering of the Raptor...
I took videos and will get it posted up. Here's the print version of what I did:
1. For Upfitter Switch 3, I found the wire under the hood and connected it to the pass through.
2. Remove the Kick Panel and Under Dash Panel for better access. Remove Sill Plate and Fold back the carpet for even...
Ok. No more one-wheel-peel in 2wd.
Hooked the Diff to Aux switch 3 and it works perfectly. Able to fry both tires at the same time now.
Going into the mud tomorrow so we'll see how long it lasts.
If it frys I'll replace it with an Eaton Aftermarket unit that is designed to take 12v all of...
Strange that SPE would sell a kit that sends 12v down the wire with just a relay (That's all it is) and the internet is not blown up with fried E-lockers. There is no PWM or voltage drop it's always 12v.
I don't doubt the TCCM drops the voltage, my question is was it just a power management...
After spending some time installing and messing with this kit I've determined the best route is to just use one of the built in Auxillary switches instead.
No MIL and no warnings when hooked up but having an indicator when engaged would be nice.
So that said tomorrow I'll remove this kit and...
I don't get it either. Even our 2wd Harley Edition has it even though it's probably got the lowest tow and load capacity of any F150 ever.
The SPE kit shipped so I should have feedback here in the next week or so.
Wifey wanted a Black Widow F150. I said no because it won't fit through a carwash and I'm not washing it.
Raptor was the compromise. It's hers but I'm responsible for modifications, maintenance and upkeep.
MKW, What offset did you go with for those wheels?
The back story is the Raptor is my wife's truck. At the Ford dealer she wanted one of the Black Widow lifted F150's (6" lift with 35's sticking 3" out) and I said no. Since the raptor fits through a carwash it was our compromise vehicle...
For $70 bucks I ordered the kit. I'll report back on how it works and if codes get tripped.
As for Ford's PWM I wonder if it's not just for energy management purposes since Eaton's aftermarket version just uses a relay...
Yes, I pulled the schematic and it's powering the locker via a latching relay so it can be powered in any range and is not speed limited.
Just curious if anybody here has used it.
This is the schematic for the locker:
Just now I went out and shifted it into 4hi, Baja Mode, and pushed the rear diff lock button. Everything engaged correctly.
When I attempted to turn the dial to 2wd the Error message was "Selected 4x4 Mode not available in current terrain mode"
Wifey makes me get them on every truck even my ZR2 that I traded in for my new to me '17 Raptor. I took my balls out of her purse and said no to the Amp's on the Raptor.
They do make ingress/egress easier so I get why the guy did it.
For running in the mud (Mud Parks only) I'm used to 2wd with a limited slip. It does two things:
1. Reduces the chance of getting really stuck since 2wd can only get you so far and then 4wd allows you to back out.
2. Reduces the amount of mud slinging everywhere from the front tires.
