Deciding on a used 2013 Raptor. SHOCKS ..will the dealer ever admit they need to be replaced before selling you a Raptor?

Shock exchange should be less than $1000. Try using as a negotiating point, but as others have said it shouldn't be a deal breaker.

    Ford Performance Chase Rack

I agree 100% that the light bar was well made and sturdy. Just keep a close eye on your bed. We started noticing the bed sagging slightly on one side and it got worse quickly. We run high speed desert out here though (this incident actually happened in Baja), so it might come down to the type of...

    Ford Performance Chase Rack

I would shy away from it on a Gen2/3. Other than the obvious price issue, I know first hand the aluminum bed on the Gen2 will collapse and tear under the weight of the stock Shelby rack/light-bar with moderate off-roading. That thing is very heavy and this one looks strikingly similar. After...

Gen 2 vs Gen 1 Frame Durability

^^^ This exactly! Bump stop kits work. Saying bump stops cannot absorb the energy from jumping a truck simply isn't true. Speaking of early Gen1 Raptors specifically, since that is my personal experience and the OPs truck, the weakest point of the frame was from a hard hitting donkey kick...

Best random compliment or quote you've ever gotten?

I had a couple women come up and ask what color it was. When I said black, one looked at the other and said, "I told you it wasn't brown". I was in Utah after a long off-road session after a heavy rain. You couldn't see any actual body panels, only mud.

    Budget lights that don't suck?

You get what you pay for. I have a 20" Rigid and a 54" no-name Chinese bar and the Rigid puts out more light. The 54" looks cool at least...I guess. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't buy it again.

New to Off-Roading your Raptor? You need to know this.

I use the Garmin inReach mini. All the same communication features as the $450 one, but smaller form factor and $100 cheaper. It is a little clunky to send messages from the device itself, but it can be done. It is meant to be paired to a cell phone over bluetooth which makes it much easier to...

Gen 2 vs Gen 1 Frame Durability

RPG, SVC, Icon. Take your pick. I like the SVC setup; it is heavy reinforcement and adjustable, but they are all great.

Gen 2 vs Gen 1 Frame Durability

Everything @Rick@FMS said 100%. I've had a Gen1 since 2011 and never heard of a warranty issue because of a bump stop kit. I did want to add that in addition to what Rick said about the bump stop kit, which is all true, most of them also reinforce the frame around the bumps. Most aren't just...

Part Number for Pinion Bearing [Gen1]

I appreciate the input, but I tried a bearing puller without heat, then with heat. Then I cut it with a dremel and chisel. Then I dremeled out a 1/2" wide strip. Then I welded a quick bead around it because I saw on youtube that when the weld cools, it contracts and pulls the race in. Then I...

Part Number for Pinion Bearing [Gen1]

Haha. It isn't interesting, but sure. I work VERY slow, so this has been going on for about 6 weeks and still isn't done. It all started because my axle seals were leaking after 7 days in Baja. I decided that while I had the seals out I would just replace the bearings too. The outer race of...

Part Number for Pinion Bearing [Gen1]

@CoronaRaptor and @FordTechOne Thanks to the both of you. That was the part number. Just odd that it comes up with a different one when searching by the VIN.

Part Number for Pinion Bearing [Gen1]

Thanks, I'll check that out. That site lists two 4630 bearings, both fitting the 2011 Raptor: 9L3Z-4630-A BC3Z-4630-A Perhaps they are different size and one of them will fit. I'll send this over to the parts guy and see if he can pull whichever he wasn't pulling previously. It is odd; I've...

Part Number for Pinion Bearing [Gen1]

Can anyone (@FordTechOne) help provide a Ford part number for the inner pinion bearing on the rear diff? I pulled this image from parts.ford.com using my VIN and had my local dealer pull 4630, which is what I thought it was, but it is smaller than what is on the truck. I have the bearing here...

    Advice on leafs please

My Deaver's held up well and were definitely better than stock. I put about 50k miles on them. I just ordered Ikons to replace them to go with the RXT shocks, so I'll let you know in 2022 when suspension components arrive...

    Battery replace Gen 1

I suggest a battery. FWIW, yellow top Optimas are deep cycle and provide no benefit over the red top to a car/truck if you have the engine running the majority of time you are drawing electricity. There are use cases it makes sense, but it wouldn't be my default recommendation to anyone.

    Lightning Raptor

In the most technical way, you are correct, but I was responding to a comment about the grid not being able to support EVs. My point was it could, but if you were concerned you could get a solar. Solar is, at least in most states, net-metered. Meaning the electricity you produce during the...

    Lightning Raptor

There is so much misinformation here. I really encourage everyone back to Engineering Explained on Youtube. He is a car guy and an engineer. He used to have an S2000 and now has a supercharged Miata. He isn't an EV guy. He does a ton of videos on cars and really does fact-based analysis...

    Lightning Raptor

Engineering Explained has a few videos about charge times that clear this up quite a bit. You can easily keep your charge times to 20 to 40 minute stops as long as you are using a Tesla or Electrify America charging stations. The key is not to wait for the vehicle to get to 100% charge, but...

    Lightning Raptor

I agree with most, an electric Raptor doesn't make sense at the moment because of range limitations and Baja's charging infrastructure, but this argument is nonsense. The vast majority of electric vehicle charging happens at home, overnight. They "time-shift" usage to less busy times of the day...

Should i buy Ford extended warranty?

If you off-road and beat on the truck like it should be beat on, I would get it. Keep in mind this is the first year of a new generation. Odds are it will have more issues than subsequent years. I would never buy a warranty either, but did for my Raptor because I actually use it. That warranty...

GEN 1 Headers touching the Frame

Just went through something similar. I had StainlessWorks and the clearance is so tight. Keep in mind the motor shifts slightly in the mounts. If it is touching now, it will have a hole in it very soon. I think when they did mine, they removed both mounts and lifted the entire engine slightly...

    Key stuck in ignition

Sounds like you've narrowed it down to specifically the transmission, but I've had the key stuck because of the wheel lock as well. Took me a few minutes to figure out. Turning the wheel a little bit released it.

    Roadmaster active suspension

This came up recently on the forum and the consensus was to not off-road with RAS installed. https://www.fordraptorforum.com/threads/roadmaster-active-suspension.82760/
